JoeD 24
I thought I might ask you lot for your advice, I am seriously thinking about pest control as a career. I have looked on the BPCA site as suggested by stubby and came across this course http://www.bpca.org.uk/coursearticle.asp?s...enleewtsapf=149 What do you guys think and is it a good stepping stone towards the path of a pest controller. Cheers, JoeD Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
The course that you've pointed to is the industry standard, and you'll find you won't really be able to do much without it. My advice is to look for a job with a bigger firm to start with. They'll put you through the same course- and you'll be getting paid to do it, not having to fork out hundreds of pounds yourself, and you'll get some on the job experience which is more valuable than any certificate. I was in very much the same position as you when I quit uni a few years ago. I had an interest in pest control but hadn't really considered making a career of it, but while in an unemployed stupor, a vacancy arose with a big firm. I applied, and as part of the interview process, spent a day on the road with a technician. I wasn't successful on that occassion, but it set me onto the track, and I approached every company I could find addresses for. I too had considered starting right out on my own, but eventually found a job with a big firm. I know I could have taken the BPCA/RSPH Level 2 off my own back and started a business, but knowing what I now know, it would have been unsuccessful! After a few years working as a tech, I'm start out on my own, and I'm glad thats the way I've done it. Others on here may disagree, but I'm just speaking from my experience. Where are you based mate?
