Terrie 12
Hi there just though i would see if there is any one else doing their family tree and such like? I have been doing my own for a while on & off. I would love to do this full time as a job when the kids are at school. There are a few handy sites. But so far i think the best place is the register house. (in edinburgh) If any one needs a few tips i dont mind seeing if i can help. and give them the links to the sites and so on. lurchergrrl 1,441
My Mum has been using Ancestry.com to trace my Grandad's side of the family. Found some really really interesting information. One of my ancestors was captured during a raid by Chippewa indians and brought up by them Got another ancestor who was burned at the stake in Tewksbury Once you start reading all that stuff it's hard to stop. Terrie 12
Aye someof he you do have to payy for but here are a couple that came in handy with me fist the one mentioned before anctory.com that is good but it has quite limited info available. here are a few links http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/ http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ last two are scottish site hence why they have been handy for me the last one you have to pay for credits. But they are good site and very informative. Insaying that if it wer'nt for genesreunited then i wouldnt have found my grandads sister And yeah you are right lurcher girl it is hard to stop as you really get into it and as strange as it may seem the more you learn the more of a bond that grows (even though you didnt meet them) Hard to explain but if you have done it you willknow what i mean. No one was burned at tewkesbury , but hope this helps . 1555 John hooper, the second bishop of gloucester, met a terrible end when he was burned at the stake in the city as a heretic. He spent the night in the westgate street house that is now the folk museum, then next morning a crowd of 7,000 gathered around st mary's knapp, a small mound near st mary de lode church, where the execution was to take place. Hooper was bound to the stake with an iron hoop. Twice, the fire around himwas lit, and twice it went out.More dry wood was brought and three bags of gun powder were tied to Hoopers body, but they were ineffectual and Hooper was subjected to fortyfive minutes in the flames, untill he lost consciousness and died. An eyewitness account describes his final moments :nBut when he was black in the mouth and his tongue swollen, that he could not speaK, yet his lips went till they were shrunk to the gums, and he knocked his breast with his hands untill one of his arms fell off, and then still knocked with the other, what time the fat, water , and blood, dropped at his finger ends , untill by renewing of the fire his strenght was gone and his hand did cleave fast in knocking to the iron upon his breast. So, immediately bowing forwards, he yeilded up his spirit . Hope this helps lurchergrrl ?????

I'mnot saying that i know alot but i love it all the same even the oldruin buildings have facinated (spelling is shocking i know) Me since i was a young girl at primary school. I think history is some thing that should be kept alive and we are ancerotrs should try to find out as much as poss (when doing the tree) which is why i found the mining site so great as most of my family were in the mine in lanarkshire. this sort of thing has always appealled to me.
