a lot of my mates go coarse fishing but i prefere carp fishing with the alarms and bivvy

thay all think its the lazy way

Anagram fish . Carp fishing is coarse fishing . Though my mate and I refer to it lightheartedly as "anagram" fishing The last few years for some reason carp have been artificially elevated in some circles above our native fish in status . A lot of modern carp fishing at first examination appears to be based around crude ,self-hooking ledgering techniques which compares unfavourably with the fine end tackle and lightening reaction often required to hook a January roach from an icy river .

That's an unfair comparison because every species requires it's own approach and modern carp anglers with their paradoxical compulsive but layed -back ,bivvied -up style might not seem to be the most dynamic or sporting of anglers but they have done wonders for the day -ticket trade and tackle industry as well as attracting the interest of youngsters sadly unlikely to appreciate a spikey little perch as a first catch when double figure carp are on the menu of most commercial lakes .

I do think it has gone too far though. Carp from ever-hungry, fast -growing culinary strains can be bought and stocked at any size from fingerlings and match sized thumpers up to instant record -breaker . Now they have started appearing in mysteriously big numbers in our rivers . For a long time there have been a few carp in our natural waterways and there was something noteworthy about the capture of a big one . These new river carp pose a potential environmental danger to native stocks by hogging food resources hoovering-up native spawn,generally dominating the biomass capability of any water that they inhabit in any number . Luckily the British weather has been a limiting factor on their breeding success as t much of the spawn they produce fails to develop except in warm shallow lakes or exeptionally hot summers . Britain is years behind many other parts of the world with its attitude to the stocking of carp . Not without reason are they regarded as at best food ,at worse vermin in many other countries.

 

Weird really . If a chap was to hurl a couple of self-hooking rigs out into the pond ,attach the lines to stakes hammered into the bank and go to sleep he'd be arrested for using a night line . But add a couple of expensive rods to the equation and legality is restored .

So ,this post is a little tongue in cheek and I am being a bit of a Devil's Advocate but carp are no longer special . Perhaps we should start being a bit less sentimental about em .

I tried Carp fishing..........gave it a year but couldn't really get into it.........i find it just boring, setting up your stuff then sitting down and waiting for hours!

 

So now when I go fishing with the other half, I just enjoy bit-bashing! They might be small tiddlers..........but I'm busy!

coarse fishing is ok and i do it occationally but carp fishing is more of a skill, to find the best fish you have to find gravel bars, sunken islands, weed beds and fish up to them the tackle is more teqnical to all the different rigs and bait.and like any water your best of going and having a look round and talk to people fishing it to see what baits are working best.

i think its a more specialised way to fish so i wouldnt say its lazy at all. happy fishing pal atb

coarse fishing is ok and i do it occationally but carp fishing is more of a skill, to find the best fish you have to find gravel bars, sunken islands, weed beds and fish up to them the tackle is more teqnical to all the different rigs and bait.and like any water your best of going and having a look round and talk to people fishing it to see what baits are working best.

Thing is, a lot of the methods used by the bivvy brigade have applications in Match fishing, especially rigs and flavours.

 

And I don't think the word 'lazy' is relevent to someone who carries half a ton of bivvy and fishing gear, and then sits in the same spot for 72 hours.....that requires rather more determination than I think I could muster.

bollocks, how is carp fishing more of a skill than general course fishing? yeah there are skills and tecniques you need to learn when carp fishing but are you trying to say that you dont need to find drop offs,weed beds and bars when course fishing? of course you do! and if we're going into skill then how many carp anglers do you see that can trot down a river? shot a float properly and infact fish any other method other than ledgering???

there is skill in both methods of fishing but for me its carp fishing that i enjoy the most

used to go about an hour before dark ,get on the floating crust ,land a good big fish and be back home for dark ,the looks i used to get were priceless

If you fish an overstocked day-ticket then carp fishing can be a lazy sport.

 

Soon as you start fishing 60 acre pits with only one carp per acre, it gets a bit more challenging.

 

I try and do a bit of everything; sea, coarse and fly, but carp fishing is my main focus.

 

Carp fishing has, for me, become more time-consuming. I don't just turn up and start fishing- I spend days walking the banks, I drive down after work to pre-bait regularly, I keep in touch with what has been caught.

 

I think all the different types of fishing require different skills- I bet a carp angler would struggle to cast a fly line- but carp fishing is definitely the one that will completely take over your life.
