border lad 1,047
Hello all, a young man asked a question, about the collie Greyhound breed of Lurcher, to me that breed of a Lurcher is hard to beat for an all round dog, but first, you have to find out about the parents of this pup, worker to worker, they are of proven stock, both parents were good workers day or night, A good choice, ((( but if you are going to breed yourself,(( 1= do not go to the dogs home and get a collie bitch, and then put a second rate greyhound dog over her what has been a reject, from a Flapping track, basicaly doomed to failure, on the other hand, a retired hill collie, bitch x a retired open racer, dog and there is plenty about, all you want him to do is service the bitch, if she has 7 pups you may get 3 or 4 good pups out of that breeding the rest is wasteage, then you can breed again, from an ex open greyhound racer again, and then you are on the money, A long way round to getting a good dog, but at least you know what the true breeding was, and for those who think they would breed the other way collie on top of the greyhound, bitch, No problem, then you have to put the work into the pup, into the young dog, Rabbits, and more rabbits, and when he is about 15/ to 16 months old introduce him or her onto the hares, and believe you, that pup will not let you down, you will reap the benifits of breeding your own type and more. I know a first class collie/greyhound bitch 9years old running on three legs due to a bad injury, still able to pick up boulted rabbits, I never saw as good a bitch in all my days, she was a machine in her younger days, Now I throw the cat amongst the pidgeons, DO YOU KNOW ANY LURCHER BITCH AT 9 YEARS OF AGE, BASICALY RUNNING ON THREE LEGS WHO CAN STILL PICK UP BOULTED RABBITS, THE collie greyhound is a first class Lurcher, speed stamina and brains, and a good watch dog to boot, Quote Link to post
