  1. Thanks to all for your kind and supportive comments. You are all correct of course, DONT lend. I never really have and I dont really know why i did this time, a little voice in my head said, "dont lend it" but I ignored it. I never really have loaned things in the past so dont know what came over me. If I borrowed something of yours and broke it, I'd replace it like-for-like. To me its a kind of 'unwritten' thing that chaps do. I am really understanding that things can go wrong, but its how you react to things when they do that matters. However this arse has alienated himself a lit
  2. So, a 'friend' wanted to try my scope (Hawke Panorama 4-12 x 50, AO, IR, EV) and in the end, against my better judgement I took it off my gun and loaned him it for a weekend. When he gave it me back, he mentioned that during his hunting trip he dropped his gun in muddy water, and the scope as well, but everything seemed fine. I looked through the scope and it was not fine at all.... There was now a number of small speckles / marks on the objective lens, where he stated he wiped the mud off with his finger.. ...for f**k sake.......what a muppet. You can even see it in the tunnelling eff
  3. Have to Agree with Mark here . I've owned the same Tx for about 13 years now and its rock solid. Built like a tank, excellent quality, highly accurate, lovely trigger, Absolute top rifle. Mine's in need of a service now as its a bit twangy and I suspect below 11ft-lbs now, ....but 40% use over 13 years is some going....still firing 'OK'....but needs some TLC when the pennies allow.... What MK is it? Bring it to the AA meet weekend at Nuneaton 1st weekend in August and I'll put a new spring and seal in it for you. All original parts from Bond Guns, Julian will have a vanload of s
  4. Thanks All I've just got a dual Japanese waterstone (1000 / 6000), which should be good for sharpening new blades. I will get a 600 or 800 stone at a later time for blades that will need more work. Thanks to all here who gave advice. I also now fancy some other Helle knives....but will have to save....

  6. Pictures of the perm, yes. Don't feel you have to put pictures of dead quarry up though.....not all of us understand that or subscribe to the view you have to.....
  7. Had a couple of guns from there. My current Tx is from there and its is a great gun - well pleased and the lads did a good job for me on that one. However, I must mention that in the mid 1980s I ordered a HW80 (rifle) from the Airgun centre and it took about 4 months to arrive, when it did, it was wrong (carbine) so had to send it back and it was a complete pain in the arse. This was, admittedly, some years ago but everytime I phoned and asked what the feck was going on I was told it would be in the post to me next week, then next week, then next week.....I then said that if its not wit
  8. Smeering the feeders in peanut butter can help with them taking to it soon. Even If they leave the butter, the smell attracts them in....
  9. Hey Man You're welcome anytime but I shoot the North west (the coast of the lakes / Cumbria) not the north east my friend.....
  10. I think I'm right in saying they are the best selling PCP. One idea I would suggest is to buy a good 2nd hand one (pre anti-tamper) and then invest on a top-end tune up (i.e., XTX air). The blueing on my older S410K has a flawless deep matt finish that I really like. On my new S410 classic its a deep shiny finish like a black mirror....its anti tamper, and the trigger is no where near as sweet as my older one no matter how much I play....still top drawer quality - but when you've been lucky and spoiled with a gun that is soooooooo good, you know you will never sell, other units pale in
  11. At the risk of this thread being locked (the last one was..... ) all I would say is they are excellent. I've now got 2 of these (carbine and classic) - better than 90% of the rest and no worse than the other 10%. I've had my carbine for about 12 years, never let me down. No leaks, never serviced, had a fair to hard life. I grease a few places, wipe it down, oil the stock, and she's good to go. Deadly accurate. If you can stretch to it - get walnut stocks they are way better balanced.
  12. Thanks Chaps - do you have any links to good places that sell these things, and good quality ones?
  13. Hi Chaps I've just bought a nice hunting / skinning knife (EKA)...hope these are good - it looks and feels great. I want to look after it and sharpen it well. Would you suggest a wet-stone approach (oil and stone) or one of those sharpeners you just run it through? (I hate the look of those). Do you know of a good stone sharpening set / kit? This knife cost me around £65, which is a lot of money to me, so I want to look after the blade and sharpen it with a good quality method. Suggestions and advice most welcome.
  14. Thanks Elliot I'm making notes of all the tips here. My perm is really for rabbits, but the farmer gets rooks / crows in the morning and they make a racket and are bothering him.....so he said pop them off when you get the chance.... The frustrating thing is, they nest in woodland not that far away, but I cant get permission for that (which would be much easier).
  15. My understanding of the GLs is that they are only for birds (obvious, but needs saying) and so putting up feeders for squizzers (for example) is perfectly legal. Its also legal to put out liquidized cat food for rats to bait them in. So the principle of baiting and luring in this way is perfectly fine for these species. I cannot find anything in the GLs against baiting for Corvids as part of decoying. I read on another forum sometime ago, that it might be different for pigeons - but again, not seen that in the GLs. Also, I think its fine to bait Larsen Traps (which is in the GL) so
  16. I recently spent a small fortune on exploring all sorts of alternatives to my AA fields. Conclusion = I was right all along, AA fields were by far the best in all my guns. I was glad i did the testing, though also annoyed....My breech does not like superdomes....i have to really push the bolt...so def dont like the feel of them and they were not not great downrange
  17. and you didn't even have to pay to read it.....lucky you.
  18. Cheers Mark Great advice and lots to think about. It's so much easier in woodland.....
  19. Not that I've ever done it, but my understanding is it is NOT illegal to bait for Corvids with carrion. I could be wrong and will re-check the GLs in due course. Others here may have views. I think it might be for pigeons. The maddness of the GLs makes it very tricky as I think you can bait for trapping.....
  20. Thanks Mark, I did not know there was a "Font mafia" on here  . I just wrote it in Word and cut n pasted....didnt think anymore about it. However, I think you will find, by chance, the font is actually easier to read (more spacing in the letters and lines). Nonetheless I'll make sure for next time...... In relation to the actual question in the OP Mark, ever had one of those days????
  21. Hiya Charlie I'm a sucker for a mil-dot. Shooting .22 means I need something to help with the hold-over out to 40yds, so mil-dots for me. However, I may experiment over coming months. You're dead right about the quality of the glass on the Nikons. I also do amateur landscape photography and its well known amongst the pros I have spoken to that Nikon glass is the best there is.....
  22. you can get them with an air rifle, but you'd need to change your approach to them if they've wised up to the one you're using.
  23. Hi JJM Great job mate. Feeders is the way to go if you want to make serious inroads into squizzers. I shoot them all the time up north and even though some of my woodland is well shot and they are very nervous, at the end of the day they are a creature of habit and need to feed. I'd just alter the time I shoot them and make sure I'm onsite and hidden before they arrive. I have found that the greys, in different regions have very different habits regarding feeding time. Once you've worked that out with the feeders, you're good to go. There should be a few dreys about as well, alwa
  24. Hi Charlie I agree about Nikon glass - superb. I don't like their reticles though and so that has stopped me from buying one. When they do illuminated milldots, I'm in.......
