Mmmmm ........ I'm still mulling it over.

I like the fact that it is small. Owning an add-on has always put me off because of the new position that your head has to occupy on (or sometimes off) the cheekpiece.

I've laso heard that some scopes get a better performance than others, due to different coatings on the lenses etc. Are there any scopes in particular that he doesn't recommend? I use a number of different scopes, and this is what concerns me.

I am using a Hawke sidewinder on my nv rifle and it's great in day out to 300m easily.

The wardyvision doesn't appear to add on much to the eye relief on the one I tested with and without the wardyvision on it.

I reckon it'll work perfectly with Mtc scopes, hawkers and probably most things that have parallax adjustment.

Speak to Clive on the nv forum

Cheers Hutchey. I did ask him about the compatibility with Vortex scopes, but as yet I haven't received a reply. I'll have to give him a nudge. ;)

  2. I gave them a side by side comparison yesterday out of my 1417.

Visually: I was quite surprised. The head of the 42 grainer is definitely bigger. Hard to believe eh, that 2 grain difference can be so noticeable?

Performance: Personally I could not tell an difference between the two. Nothing significant in POI at my range (65 yards). No enhanced punch down range either.

All in all, nothing to write home about.

  3. They seem to be on back-order at the moment, It's getting towards 3 weeks ago since I ordered mine and still no sign of it. Clive also doesn't seem to be able to tell me when it's likely to arrive.

EDIT: Then 30 mins after posting this I get notification that it's shipped. Appy dayz

Give us a review when you get the chance.

  5.

Is the price still £419 delivered Ian?

I see that Clive W has an offer on for all NV Forum members .... £409 delivered.

Send a link to a product online and it will be matched Tremo.

I keep toying with the idea of the 4.6 version, but am wondering if I should get the 6.5 now, I would probably only mount it on the .22 or the air rifle, so would the larger 6.5 be too much for say ratting @ 20 -30 yards? I will be interested in the reviews when they appear, to see if its any better than its smaller stablemate.

To be honest its better for rimfire/centrefire ranges as its higher mag, which will give a better image at distance, the lower mag xt 4.2 will give more field of view which may be better for close range work like ratting.

    Good man Ian! ;)

  6. A picked up a box of 50 the other week, more out of interest than anything else.

I haven't tried them as yet, but hopefully if the rain holds off this afternoon I will be able to give them a bash. Like CC said though, I can't imagine that those extra 2 grains are going to make much difference.

I'll let you know as soon as I have some info ........ good or bad. ;)

  7. Tried one out and probably going to get one to add on to my 223 so i can keep the day scope on it for other things

New photon first though for my rimmy

You popped in to see Clive after all then Hutchey? I've been meaning to drop you a line for an update? What did you think?

  8. My Feo told me the amount of bullets you SAY you have shot

Has absolutely no bearing on the fac nothing but common sense stops you buying thousands of rounds

And sticking them under the loft lagging

If the amount of rounds fired carried any weight fac holders would be required to keep and produce the brass

    I asked this question because I have a 17 hmr and a 223 that I haven't shot for over a year

And thought I was going to have to justify the reason for them

This was for a renewal on an open ticket

Renewed no problem and not interested in shots fired only amo stored

My FEO stated categorically ............ rounds fired has no bearing on the issue of an open ticket. He deems that the time spent learning the craft is the route.

Personally I feel that every measure has its flaws. Even the one used in my authority. Theoretically a chap can get his ticket granted and not fire a shot for a year or two. He might then ask for his ticket to be opened up and hey presto there you go, a complete newbie with no field experience is now allowed to shoot almost anywhere that he can get permission.

  9. Good plan mate  .222 the calibre the gods would choose, lazer beam accurate and well capable out to 250 yards, .223 a tiny bit more grunt but a bit chavy :whistling: .22-250 very very fast, capable out to 400 yards + in the right hands, .220 swift, same as .22-250 but harder to get ammo for, and all of the above can be used on small deer CWD and Muntjac in England and Wales, and Roe in Scotland, if you never intend to shoot deer, (never say never) the .17 rem is well worth a look as a fox tool, as is .204 Ruger, my choice if you have a lot of ground, and big fields? Well it has to be the .22-250 mate, proper fox medicine :D

I must be having a déjà vu mate. :hmm:

Do you have these quotes written down somewhere by chance?? ;)

  10. Defo wasn't 17mph lol. I'm sure mine used to do a 3.5 inch drift in a 10 mph wind at 100 yards. The Hmr is notoriously bad in the wind buddy, I personally didn't take mine out in varying wind conditions.

    +1.

Its always windy where I shoot. Consequently my HMR spent much more time in the cabinet than it should have. It is definitely a calibre for calm conditions.

  11. The one that came out of the torch is 65mm long (think it was an Ultrafire or similar). I've seen the protected ones but don't know if I need 'protected' or not. I wasn't planning on getting rechargable so does it matter?

I have the Ultrafire ones as well. They are supposed to be protected, but I found out that they were slightly shorter than the Nightmaster protected ones when I tried to use two of them together with the NM800 extension tube. You could here them moving around inside the torch body. :hmm:

I've been meaning to pick up two more NM ones, but if the ones recommended by reaper1064 are the same length then I'm happy to save myself the tenner.

  12. Nikon Monarch 3. 50mm objective. The magnification is overkill I know (6-24), but I pulled it off one of my CFs when I picked up a new one for that rifle.

I rarely go above x12 so the x24 will probably never get used while on my .22LR. I wanted to hang on to the quality glass though, rather than sell it on.

  13. I've got to agree with Mike here Cedric. There is a distinct probability that while we are out in the field, our scopes will take numerous "light" bumps. The loss in confidence in the accuracy of your scope as a result of this is not good. Obviously I would expect a full drop of the rifle to have some effect on the POI, but not the occasional bump.

Get yourself a new one mate.

  14.

Get yourself a .22LR Martin. It is all that you will need for bunnies at normal ranges.

He's got a .22 mate, just needs the rabbits. Don't seem to be the numbers round here there once were.

Same story with my permissions. The rabbits have all but disappeared.

My current pashion is giving the crows a bashing. Plenty of them around, but it does take a bit of skill to get anywhere near them. Flying Devils! :censored:
