Love the predator music Tremo.
Cheers Walshie. I thought the music would 'sex it up' a bit.

Always cold over this side of the border Walshie, and wet when it isn't cold. . Nevertheless I have managed to get out a little lately to keep the farmers happy.
I'm not quite Steven Spielberg as yet, but it fills up my spare time. There are a few vids, but this is the latest one. Take a look ....

Just what Rimfireboy! states ... If you want performance you'll need to use 3" carts. If noise is more important try the 2.5" Hunting carts from Gambore. I have found them to be reasonably quiet, but the downside is they only carry 14g of No.6 shot.

I wish the barrel ran through an eccentric axis of the moderator.
Aiming would be more natural then.
Agreed.

Good afternoon chaps.
I've recently taken ownership of one of these. To date I must say that I am mighty impressed with it. Sadly though it only arrived with a selection of chokes - Full, 1/2 and Skeet.
Can any one here recommend somewhere that I can purchase additional chokes for this gun? I have read that Berreta Mobil chokes can be used in the A612??
Many thanks in advance.

I have a Baikal .410 Hushpower and I find it great fun to use. The only downside is that your aiming is affected by the moderator. You get used to it though, but it renders the bead at the end of the barrel impractical.

I always used a picatinny rail on my 527, so sorry mate I can't help you out here.

Personally I have never rung the police to let them know that I'm out shooting. I cover that many small farms in a night that it would take an eternity to give them all the details. Also, there are that many couples getting there leg over on the country lanes around here it would take a bunch of officers all night to check every vehicle. They would get very bored, very quickly.

I suppose that I could be classed as a fair weather shooter. Been out in all conditions. Fog waste of time. Cant see ten yards ! Sleet /snow not much further. Frost, & ice, its just too cold. Been out and got covered in frost so when we got back we looked like snowmen. And the fingernails felt like they were peeling off. Rain, naah got soaked to the skin and frozen to the marrow. The rain obscured the vision to the target and I couldn't track it out across the plough. As time has gone by I don't feel the need to endure all of these things. I'd much rather stay indoors in the dry and warm and go out Charlie bashing on my terms. He'll be there tomorrow unless you brave the elements and knock him down befoe I get him. I'll watch you home out of the warmth of inside.
My sentiments entirely. . I find it difficult enough to shoot the b*ggers in the fine weather!

My memory isn't as good as it was, but doesn't the 52 grain A-max have a boat tail, and the .22 cal V-max bullets don't? If this is the truly the case and you are getting some odd results then perhaps this is a contributing factor?
-
My mate uses one just like Toxo describes. He has it on his .22LR and really rates it.

I used CFE 223 in all the loads for my .223 (40gr thru 55gr). It yielded superb accuracy. I don't know if there is any CFE left around now though.

It really was to clear things up. Those loads have been accrued over time. As you know there is little info out there for the 17gr pill and if you ask ten different forums a question you'll get ten different answers. Some swear by Lilgun whilst others won't touch it, etc etc. What I want to end up with is a medium range quiet load and full load for "normal" ranges. At £5.50 per 100 for the 17gr Vmax I won't discard it until I know it won't do what I want it to do.
Until recently I've only been getting out once a week and then for a limited time. That's changed now and I can put in full days through the week so the developing will begin in earnest and I've just confirmed with my FEO that I can use my nearest perm for the Hornet which will cut the travelling time in half.
I know that the groups on that target will reduce drastically when I make sure that all cases and seating are the same and I've worked out what the "jump" should be.
Now that I've done that little excercise I'll choose the best and go on from there. I'll even be taking the F1 Chrony which hasn't seen the light of day for months.
It seems no-one has an answer for the size of the holes. My guess is that there's some wobbling going on. Either they're just not stable with that combination or they were to begin with and became unstable at some time before 100yds.
Alright Toxo?
Just as a guide () ... I'm running 12.0 grains of DO63 out of my 17 hornet, pushing Hornady 25 grain HPs. 3425 fps and a single ragged hole at 100 metres.
My advice would be - 1) Select the bullet weight that you feel is best suited to you shooting requirements, 2) Use your selection of powders to find the one that the bullet/barrel combination likes.
Having too many parameters in your tests will never yield the results that you are looking for, and it will ultimately drive you mad. . I've been there.

Thanks Toxo. I'll bear it in mind if/when I'm ever across your side of the island.

You really should try the quads Tremo. They're as cheap as chips and as stable as you want them. A few years ago I added an extra stick and if you have the time you can get em so you just have to pull the trigger. My extra leg is adjustable. I don't have to use it but for longer targets I extend the back leg with the rifle pointed high, then lowering the rifle to the target I put slight pressure on the back leg with my knee. Takes longer to tell than to do. I'm not kidding when I say if I couldn't have my quads I'd hardly go shooting at all. I suspect a lot of people that are using one, two, and three legged versions sometimes have to lean on something occasionally but I can stand in the middle of a field and as already been said, lift one leg with the extra stick closed and scan 360degrees. Once target acquired I line up extend the back leg and bang.
I left out the bit about not having to put the rifle down to work on it, reload, make a cuppa etc
I'll have to give them a go one day mate.
It looks as though you really have it suss'd there. The bunnies don't look that happy with your equipment though!! . Obviously they work well for you mate. Good stuff.

The way my shaking is going Walshie, you had better add an extra two legs for me and make it a round 10. I'll bl**dy need them soon.

You should let me try yours for 6 months to make sure I like them.
All banter aside, if I could, I certainly would chum. . They helped me to drop 2 vixens on Thursday night after we chatting on here. I shake like a sh*tting dog when I use sticks, so to get results like this piece of kit is worth every penny to me.

The only difference I can see is the top bit is quick detachable on the gen 3 and £40 more expensive.
Keep the £40 in your pocket mate.
If I want to change the top it takes seconds to unscrew and screw the rest back on.
advice needed lads
