  1. pick your rabbits make it easy for the dog and make sure the dog sees them before you slip and don't over do it try and end every outing on a catch.it takes experience for a dog to take rabbits of there seats let him see them moving for the first wile and eventually he will learn there is something at the end of the beam.

  2. I have or had a young lurcher who hatted the car every time I took her in it she was sick and the slobbers ran out of her mouth all over everything even if u took her near the car shed be pulling and going mad on the lead trying to get away from it but after a few nights out on the lamp and a few hunting trips she's fine jumps straight into the car she now sees the car as a chance to have abit of fun and go hunting :boogy: .

  3. im thinking of getting a dog for bushing foxes and rabbits for the lurchers there mite be a change of me getting a cocker pup out of working lines for free But would i be better with a beagle or beagle cross or would the cocker do the job just as well and would it be better to have 2 bushing dogs rather than the 1.

after he seen the old dog get a fox out walking he's starting to shape up chased a few rabbits out of cover there last week and chased after them but no catch but at least he's trying took him out for a quick lamp at the weekend slipped him at 2 rabbits but he lost them but not for lack of trying he gave both of them a good run he's just not sure what to do a bit more time with him and he might come good I hope.

  7. anyone paying big money for a lurcher pup must be mad. its not names or breeding that makes a good dog its the dog the heart and the fight in the dog and the way its reared makes a good dog. got a 8 year old 1/4 bull 3/4 greyhound her got it given to me when it was 6 months old don't no nothing about its breeding or what the dam or sire were doing and didn't ask any questions but he wont back down from anything gives 100% on everything I wouldn't be without him out hunting and hope to get a pup out of him in the further. an another 2 lurcher pups don't no nothing about there breeding bought them for 60 quid old dog puled fox out of bramble bush yesterday when out for there daily walk and they both got stuck in so just goes to show its nothing to do with the breeding. by the way was complete accidental I never start lurchers on big game to there at least over a year old before anyone starts.

  8. Rright cheres lads for the advice think il hang on to him for a wile put more work in give him a chance try a few differnt things and take it from there. Just never had this problem before with a lurcher that wouldn chase had one got it at 14 months never seen anything entered no problem.anyway ill keep at him for a wile yet see if it pays of hopefully it dose.

  9. have one lurcher in the house if it sees a cat it tries to go through the window after it banging its head of it going mad only a matter of time till he dose scares the shit outa the women lol. but wish some time I would have broke him to cats he has got me into trouble in the past.

  10. thanks for the feed back.

iv had this dog for over 3 months and thought long and hard about getting a whippet or another lurcher obviously got a whippet. the man I got it of was a shooting man and thought he would have a go at lamping rabbits but then lost interested but the dog was walked with his springer every day. iv put a lot of time into the dog getting him to no me playing with him walking him getting him to chase me round the garden field with a rabbit skin and throwing a tennis ball with a skin round it he chases it and retrieves it back to had and chases the rabbit skin but just has no interest in the real thing ill keep trying him for a wile if nothing happens ill find him a new home.

  11. a bit of advice lads would be appreciated

I recently got a 11 month old whippet nothing has been done with her before I got her I have never had a whippet just lurchers and thought it would be a bit of crack for rabbits out lamping mooching and ferreting. but when out walking her rabbits frequently get up in front of her and she pays no interest in them just watches them run away when out witch my lurchers they chase them and catch a few but she just stands and watches even when the rabbit runs right past her with old lurcher in hot pursuit she still just watches. took her out lamping and still the same rabbits and old lurcher flying past her and she just watches. iv never had this problem with lurchers even as pups they were always hell bent on chasing anything. now will she ever come good and start chasing or should I just cut my losses and get rid of her iv no time for non workers in my kennels.

    thanks: Sammy.
