  1. Hi, recently moved to the Selby area and been trying to locate some wild rabbit. Will obviously pay if anyone enjoys hunting in the area. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, recently moved to the Selby area and been trying to locate some wild rabbit. Will obviously pay if anyone enjoys ferreting in the area. Thanks in advance.
  3. To be fair it was injuries that held him back and my novice training, plus soon learned that he wasn't suitable to the type of area we have
  4. Hi all - I'm probably opening myself up to some criticism but take it as it is. Looking to get a rabbiting dog to have some fun with in the future and, as strange as it sounds, I'd love it to be by my current greyhound. He's proved to be terrible at hunting but brought me lots of fun in his track days. I'd love to cross him with a bitch to produce a few decent hunting prospects. Any suggestions on what with and if anyone knows of a suitable match, let me know!
  5. Amazing pictures and write up. Great to see the Pom getting stuck in. My fiancé tells me they are the closest thing to a wolf so she's loving the pictures! Can I ask where the pictures were taken?
  6. Purdeys Pride is on YouTube, gives a pretty generic outline of the first twelve months
  7. Never seen a chicken eat meat lol. I think it's widely accepted that dogs need some sort of veg to promote good health, so if something is healthier on an omnivorous diet as opposed to carnivorous, it's probably an omnivore.
  8. There not carnivores though?! And if they were would at what age would they stop drinking milk and eating meat?
  9. Thanks for all the advice! Would I get bonemeal in a pet shop?
  10. Beta seems most popular anyway! Someone told me to feed tripe but wouldn't know where to find it round here
  11. I just presumed raw would give him the runs?
  12. Just wondered if anyone had any particularly firm feelings on puppy food? The young lad I've somehow adopted came with a bag of cheapish looking puppy food and wondered if anyone cared to share any tried and tested methods before I purchase some more? Thanks in advance!
  13. Thanks for the posts. Chuffed to bits with him. She said can we have him because he's cute, I said no. Then I asked, " What is it?" I swiftly changed my mind!
  14. Some time ago, I posted about trying to retrain my ex racer to hunt. Injuries to him and myself kept us from following through with this and in all honesty, he didn't chase to great either (presumably after having a lengthy racing career). Anyway, after my fiancé recieving a text about an unwanted present from a friend of a friend, she asked if we could have another pup. When I asked what it was, she said a six week old Bedlington Terrier/ Whippet. So, meet our latest addition... Ralph!
  15. Hi - sorry for the lack of updates. The only real progress made thus far us with his recall and that he's getting used to the ferrets being around. Unfortunately, I've just broken my hand so won't be able to take him out hunting but will let you know how I get on!
  16. I'm not for a second suggesting that he's a substitute for a lurcher, more trying to teach what I've got to do a lurchers job in some kind of fashion. Thank you for all your thoughts thus far. I'm realising that stock breaking and ferret breaking is our first task, aswell as recall, but can anyone suggest how?
  17. Thanks for that Johnny. Had some very helpful advice thus far. Breaking him to ferrets and live stock is this weeks task.
  18. His recall is getting there, slightly more worried about ferrets and livestock but that's the first challenge I guess!!
  19. Having read a few discussions on here regarding using track dogs out in the field, I thought I'd document the transition for my own greyhound as I attempt to teach him how to hunt. With little experience of doing this, any help is greatly accepted. My theory is that the hunting instinct is there (I'm lucky enough to have been to the Waterloo Cup and witnessed this myself, albeit on different quarry), so why not try to give my ex racer a new job that he enjoys instead of him resorting to quiet walks in the park and a life on the sofa watching countdown with his very appreciative owner.
  20. Looking for a cheap second hand ferret box, based in Catterick Garrison. Thanks
  21. Thanks for the advice. Not in the forces but looking forward to getting out. Will pm you armdog.
