  1. Villaman, If you plan on having a dig at anyone regarding the shooting of the fox then by all means direct your sarcasm at me as I was the one who chose to take the shot which killed it instantly. I see you have chosen to ignore the fact that I hold a Professional Culling License which entitles me to use any calibre when shooting game as well as other prohibited means ie: use of an artificial light and shooting from a vehicle etc. The fox was not shot in the UK and whether you believe me or not but i have culled well over 500 antelope up to and including Kudu using a .22 rimfire both in LR and
  2. Tyla, you have hit the nail on the head! Your post shows that you know what your talking about, Pianoman I hope your reading these posts and updating your vast African Safari knowledge! Tyla, where did hunt and with which outfit? Moz has some truly great areas...good to hear from you and thank you for your private message sent earlier...I couldn't agree more Buddy and hopefully we can catch up one day over a beer so if your ever down in Kent near Eastry be sure to look me up! Cheers Trev
  3. Mister Gain Thank you for your comment, something else which is very important for this shooting method is to not have your magnification setting to high on your scope. I always shoot on 6x magnification when in the field which I find to be manageable to control, the higher the magnification the more your movement is magnified as well! Personally I find that if I put the crosshairs at the base of the rabbit target and then breathe in it raises the rifles point of aim and I squeeze off the shot as soon as the crosshairs reach the head, this with practise is a very fast shooting technique with
  4. Give it a go and let you know what I think? Okay then 'Trev'. This is a genuine post isn't it? Shooting freehand? Really? As a spring rifle shooter I agree with you about using freehand. It's just the complete and utter bullshit the rest of the thread is made up of, I have a problem with. It's all lies and crap! You are taking the piss aren't you! I've edited out my long-winded explanations as to why you are full of crap. I rather think the gentlemen of this forum would rather love you to go on digging a deeper hole explaining why I'm wrong, you are right and you can prove every wo
  5. Socks!! I really like your "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went"...What a classic one liner, certainly hits home for me!
  6. Simon, you know more than you let on re:hunting in Africa??? Really Simon the info your quoting is not accurate in the slightest...I simply ask that members of this forum s look up the various Game Ordinances for SA for themselves, read through it and make your own deductions on Simon's so called knowledge on what can or cant be hunted and in which areas and by whom! The Professional Hunters Assoc. of South Africa (PHASA) can supply any info you require when looking into hunting in Southern Africa from Temporary Import Permits (TIP's) for rifles, licenses, permits etc. Cant hunt giraffe legaly
  7. For the record my smallest concession is 1800ha and the largest 37 000ha that is in SA, in Zim the hunting blocks outside Hwange (formally known as Wankie) National Park are so big they are measured in sq. km! I have also just picked up an error in my previous post, the MAX distance to legally protect your hunting party is 8ft, any further and the authorities deem that the animal could have stopped or altered course, as the PH you will be charged the value of that animal and loose you lic. for that country should the State deem it a non life threatening charge! Cheers Trev
  8. It seems I need to set a few things straight regarding my post and some of the replies posted by members on this forum! Firstly I am not nor am I affiliated to the trouble maker that has been banned from this forum. A Professional Hunter or PH is a professional guide that guides international clients for reward/payment within the safari industry. A few of the comments made by "Pianoman" I would like to respond to as follows: The "illegal" giraffe in my avatar, I am the one on the right of the photo!, was hunted in the Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN) province in South Africa by my client on a private
  9. Hi Guys, the fox I mentioned was not shot in the UK, I reside in both Kent and SA. Certainly not having a dig at anyone on any site or forum! As a PH guiding clients I simply mentioned this because it is frustrating in the field when you have guys who shoot very well from a bench at a target but waste time getting set up for shots on game and miss their window of opportunity! Practise practical field shooting at the range, the reviews that get done on rifles and various pellets etc on the various media are very helpful indeed, its where I heard about the 4.53 JSB working well in the Scorpion S
  10. The woodies have really started to show up in fair numbers in the last two weeks down here in Kent, one method I use is to put out some seed for them! My local Agri store sells some cheap mixed seed that does the trick, I then set up in the woods nearby and as a bonus I dictate the range by where I put the seed. Watch the birds and feed in areas they are already feeding in, set up and enjoy a good day out! I leave the downed birds where they fall instead of giving away my position and have had some cracking days out!
  11. This comment is something we hear often in Professional Hunters conversations around the camp fire in Southern Africa, as a PH myself I have seen this phenomenon all to often out on Safari in Africa and I must say it is fairly common here in the UK to some extent when hunting with an air rifle. It is my humble opinion that to much emphasis is put on equipment and not enough on actual field craft and rifle handling! I am a BSA fan, have been since i was a 9yrs old and my dad handed me my .177 Meteor to sharpen my skills, open sights and basic pellets...I recall keeping my pointed pellets sepera
  12. My apologies mate, your correct I should have! My mistake!
  13. I have just put together my new Scorpion SE from BSA, scope fitted and sighted in! I now own an Ultra and the Scorpion...the Ultra is a .22 Multishot and the Scorpion is a .177! Both are brilliant and very accurate! The Scorpion loves the JSB Exact pellets and is a tack driver...I am getting ten shot groups into a twenty pence sized group at forty meters without much effort on an outdoor range and that is with the rifle out of the box and not even "shot in" yet!!! Of the two rifles...which is best???...in my opinion I would say the Scorpion based mainly on the fact that for field work ie: rabb
  14. Welcome mate, some great fishing here in Kent not to mention some good rabbiting! So if your ever headed this way just shout and I will gladly point out some areas for you! Cheers Trev
  15. Bye the way I am on the right in my profile pic...the other lad is my client who hunted with me in the Hwange region in Zimbabwe, he is from Wales if memory serves me correctly??! Cheers Trev
