charlie caller the .17 HMR is a far better round than the .22 WMR and I have a .22 WMR. I know you really don't like the .17 HMR but I cant work out why. the 30gr v-max .22 WMR has a bc of around .095 when the 17gr .17 HMR has a bc of .125. the .17 HMR is a lot flatter and better in the wind than the .22 WMR. the little .17 HMR is more effective on fox on further ranges and its super accurate.

yes mate 1.1" high at 100 yards zero at 200 yards and you will be 5.6" low at 300 yards with the 53gr Superformence. there a great round happy shooting.
-
good job ending its pain. I hope it didn't spread the mange on to others.
-
I use Hornady 53gr Superformence they are very accurate and hard hitting any fox iv shot fell on the spot.

fair play mate I'm delighted for you, now all you have to do is get out after those little critters when you get the gun of coarse. atb mate.
-
do you ever eat them? I heard there nice.
-
congrats mate, as said already I bet it will be the longest 3 weeks of your life. make sure and let us know the finale word.
-
its still looking good for you mate you still haven't been told no. just be honest and calm on Wednesday mate and best of luck. let us know how you get on.
-
what bc and velocity did you enter Seeker? the Hornady 40 grain has a bc of .200 and a velocity of 3800 FPS. if that is what you entered then one of the calculators is wrong, I used the one on Hornadys web site.
-
according to Hornadys ballistic calculator the drift would be 17.1" or 2.4 mill dots at 200 yards with a 35 MPH cross wind.
-
I have the licence about 2 months but I only collected the gun last week I was short of cash. with the sonic 45 mod I think its still just under 11lbs.
-
I got a sabatti rover 600 dl in .223 last week. the gun with scope, mounts and bipod weighs 10lbs exactly and is very accurate. 3 shots at 100 yards = 1 raged hole with Hornady 53 grain Superformance. why not have light when its accurate.

the same thing happened to a mate of mine 2 weeks ago the first 3' was soft soil then the next 5' was loos stone and rock. we tried our best to get him out but by the time we got to him he was gone. he was a great dog never held back. he has a bitch pup from him for next year and here's hoping. its sad but that's part of the game.

there's a lot of piss takers on here Aaron but the funny thing is most of them don't know how to work a dog. 56 is a very good bag fair play to the red dog, keep the good work up. any pics of the dog? I would love if I had that many around me I would be very lucky to even see that many. my best so far is 15 and the bitch has another 15 in her and more. mixo is a bitch.

I would take that as a good sign mate they didn't just say no. don't be to nervous and id say your on the ball.

I cant see you getting a .243 for fox alone but then you don't need it if Hornady are right. according to Hornady's ballistics calculator the 53gr Superformence round with a bc .290 zeroed at 250 yards travels as follows. MPBR at 100 yards +1.9" at 150 yards +2.3" at 200 yards +1.7" at 250 yards 0" at 275 yards -1.3" at 300 yards -3" and then drops fairly fast after that. so on a fox sized target its point and shoot out to 300 yards with no wind. I'm not 100% on this but I think with a 10mph cross wind the bullet drift is 16" at 300 yards. good enough for any fox in my book.
Edited to say wind drift at 300 yards with a 10 MPH cross wind is 8.5"

a whitetail stag is smaller than our red stags yet lads used to take reds here no problem with there dogs. maybe whitetail's are faster I duno.
-
best of luck with it mate, fingers crossed for you.
-
one of the US lads on here said that he knew someone who had yote blood in his dogs, maybe the dogs were used for bobcat im not sure but one of the US lads definitely said it.
-
same as already said get close so the dog see's the rabbit when it gets up. there's no point in sliping the dog to far he doesn't know the game yet also if you wait for a few dark windy nights its easier to get close and the dog will have a better chance of catching. atb with the dog.
-
I think if its Tikka your on a winner, happy shooting.
-
I could think of a few things brains, stamina and feet.
-
I think Dan said on here before that he knew some lads that had yote blood in there dogs but im not sure how good or bad they were.
-
nice fox mate what's the dogs breeding?

Deker what do you mean by a Canada? is it a goose? well I think the HMR is a far better round than the WMR. the .17 has 3" less drop at 150 yards and nearly 10" less drop at 200 yards it also has 3" less wind drift at 100 yards, 7" less drift at 150 yards and 12" less at 200. it also retains more FTLBs from 100 yards to 200 yards. as for using the HMR as a rabbit gun and the WMR for fox I would use them the other way round not that anyone is doing that.
