  1. Thanks for all the replies guys, think I'll go but just be extra careful and make sure they have nothing to complain about. I'm probably just over nervous about the whole thing being new to it and all. At least unlike Buster321c' mine isn't haunted Stew
  2. I was granted my first permission last week and the guy seems nice, showed me round his property on his quad bike, signed the permission paper etc. However as the local postman, and having spoken to a few of his neighbours, I'm now not sure whether I can trust him. One of the people I spoke to was a game keeper for a local farm and he was surprised that I had been given permission to shoot on this guys land as apparently he and his family are anti shooting. My permission holder does however run stables and the person I spoke to would basically have been shot gunning pheasants adjacent to
  3. Yeah hard to fathom, but I think that by using pythagoras, did maths long long long time ago is skool, by shooting up or down hill you shorten the distance the pellet is acted on by gravity so you actually over shoot compared to a level shot. Or something like that at least. I know that if I get a chrono I'm going to start tweaking the power up as far as I dare, and probably land myself in the poo. Stew
  4. A quiet well trained one that painted English oak.
  5. Thats on the next things to get list mate, but for now its a case of zeroing and smacking paper at various distances and working out the HO /HU manually. Stew
  6. Went to my local shop for some shooting sticks and got a scope instead. Proud owner of a MTC Mamba lite 3-12x on 44mm.. The brightness level is far higher than my old scope and I don't know how I ever managed to hit anything without the AO function. Can't wait to get it zero'd and start trying it out properly. At what distance to you guys zero, I have zeroed at 30 yards normally, using a sub 12 Weihrauch HW100. in .22 calibre Is it better to zero short i.e. 15 yards so your only dealing with hold over at anything above that???
  7. My Harris bipod also has a sling attachment under it.
  8. I take my Hawke 600 out when I walk the dogs, every now and then I pick an object guestimate the range then lase it to check my own estimating. It's a great way to build up you own ranging skills. Only thing I found with the Hawke is it always seems to read 7 yards in low light, like early morning around dawn. Stew
  9. Great thanks for all the replies guys, think I'll stick with what I have for now then. Cheers Stew
  10. My scope is x3 to x9, I'm wondering if I should buy a new scope with higher magnification to get a better view of the rabbits kill zone. What would you all recommend to go up to. Also would parallax adjustment be good to have as well, or is it an unnecessary extra to complicate things further. Stew
  11. My Dad was from Clydebank, worked in John Browns shipyard, alang wae the rest o the toon.
  12. Nah mate, the rabbits were driven underground by ME trying to dig MYSELF down a rabbit hole trying to get away from Michael Buble's music
  13. Not a good hunt today. There are about 4 properties on my permission and one of them was having an all night party. So at 04.50 I'm out quietly stalking around rifle in hand listening to Michael Buble clear as a bell over 500 yards away, hmmph. Saw 5 rabbits none the less, 2 were too small, 2 were about 20 yards away but off permission and the closest one I could have bagged was back dropped 200 yards behind by the landowners house. Learned a lot about my kit and the permission though. Firstly need quieter boots, (mine made flappy noises). Also need a rifle strap, carrying around a scop
  14. Your are bang on Zini, as a newbie you assume the mags are straight up and totally correct with their info, reading and being a member of this forum has told me otherwise. Stew.
  15. I think Man o Kent was refering more to the reliable kill energy of (I'm assuming a sub 12lb springer) which would in my limited experience be around 30 - 35 yards. Any thing less than 35 will be a clean kill if on target anything over, you are pushing the down range energy to the limit on a sub12. If your grouping 5 shots under a 1 pence piece at 30yds start there. Always remember accuracy first then down range kill energy second, which for sub12 think is about 35 yards max. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I am new to this and still don't know cr*p. Stew
  16. Just been up to my first permission , and to be honest it was amazing. 44 acres of mown grass perimeter edged with hedges with a centre of long grass small trees and bushes occasionally disected by more mown grass lanes. Plenty of fresh burrows too. I've got my rifle ranged out from 10 to 40 yards and I'm getting 5 shot groups under a 1 pence piece at 30 yards. So hopefully things will go well tomorrow. Stew.
  17. Thanks mate, thats a usefull link there. I'll get it printed up. Cheers Stew
  18. Is it worth joining the BASC, I am only using air guns at the moment but fully intent to move into FAC rifles and shotguns. Is it worth the cost to be a member, and would it be worth me going for full membership now or just upgrade from air gun member when I actually have a shotgun / FAC rifle.? Cheers Stew
  19. Thankx for the reply mate, What insurance do I need to get specifically and any recommendation on where to get it from? Stew
  20. I'll hopefully have my first permission given this week on a nearby farm to take out some rabbits. Should I have a contract written up for the land owner to sign to cover myself legally in any way, i.e. so I have proof of being given permission to shoot. Thanks in advance for any help or advise given Stew
  21. Hopefully I'll have my first permission granted this week on a nearby farm to take out some rabbits. Would it be worth getting some form of contract written to be signed by the land owner, to cover myself legally in any way, i.e., proof of permission actually being given. Thanks in advance for any help given Stew
  22. Newbie here both to the forum and air rifling. Met some chaps today down at old downs pursuits who advised me to join so here's I is. Stew
