Having read all your replys im a little wiser now. I bumped into a fella walking round the shoot today with a pure bedlington and he shed a little light too. I've had a good look on the working bedlington forum and found some helpful information there also. All I need to do now is find the right pup and bobs your uncle. One last thing. The fella today with the pure beddy said they don't malt, is this the case with a beddy whippet cross??

Thanks for the advice and links, very helpful.

just out of interest, as a 3/4 whippet owner with a lot of experience of whippets, how does the 3/4 compare to the whippets in terms of pace/turning/strike etc. Are they no where near as good or do they get pretty close? Would you get another one after yours passes away or will you go back to whippets? just thinking you might be a good person to give a true opinion on how good the cross is compared to the pure whippet. id have another one i a heart beat mate if i could find a good beddy to use i think u lose abit of pace from the beddy but thats more than made up by the extra bit of fir

hows it goin scruff, what do ya lamp if ya dont mind me asking, i presume its shooting as ya looking for a lamping dog?? Hello mate. I personally lamp fox's with the rifle on a number of farms and the local estate. I also get the odd call from folk with small holdings and allotments etc. My lamping buddy has two Hancock collie greyhounds I think, and he gets first dibs on owt week see, I take what won't come basically. I'm after a dog a lot smaller than the two my mate has. I spend a lot of time walking round the farms I have, and with me taking all the fox's, I need to stay o

Ok mate I'll take a look down the whippet line also. When looking for a whippet pup, be it pure or x bedlington, what questions do I need to be asking other that are the parents working???

Might be a daft question on here but what is a 1st cross?? I get your point BOLIO1 but im trying to meet her indoors half way. I've got dogs penned up that she has no say in and because I'm out most nights, either working or lamping, it really does need to be a little cuddly.

Hello there. I'd like some good constructive information about bedlington whippets. Why, or why not to beginn with. I need a dog to cover a few base's really. One I can use in the hedge bottoms, whilst walking round the farm picking off the odd lose bunny, day and night, and one small enough to curl up on the sofa with the wife whilst I'm working nights. I know nothing about lurchers to be honest, and don't understand the numbers of x's within the breed, so any info there would be great also. Regards

Trespass,poaching,Sight seeing, ok! ?

I also want to add I have no problem with you boys and girls who hunt with dogs be it running or earth. I also want to point out I will, and do tolerate lampers who walk over the land taking the odd rabbit and hare, but why trash another mans living just for fun!!! My lamping buddy runs dogs and to be fair the only fox's I take with the rifle, are those that won't come within range for him. It's not only the crops, gates, and damage to hedge rows that cause problems. It took me 3 weeks to take a vixen that accounted for 16 hens in the mean time because she'd been chased from pilla -

Welcome to my world. I deal with idiots on a daily basis. Folk who think there doing me the favor by trashing hedge rows and gates with there 4x4's chasing all kinds of quarry. Driving along side a dog they've just launch out of a moving vehicle to take down a animal that's no causing them the slightest problem. For anyone to turn out at night in all weathers without any reason other than to kill and cause damage to private propaty must be a village idiot. Nobody asked, wants, or needs them. There not providing any service and to be honest, I wouldn't ask any of them to take care o -
I had browning x bolt bought new in 22-250 and thought it was terrible. The trigger was shocking at best and further more, the self adjusting system was poor. I did take the rifle to two gun smiths, and neither could help because the nice people at browning thought it would be a good idea to glue all the screws inplace, so nobody could tamper with the trigger unit, not a bad idea if the trigger was good enough to begin with. I thought the trigger was so poor, and with no options to improve it the rifle had to go within the first month dispite a massive financial loss. Point is if

Hello there. I really wouldn't bother going the whole hog unless your sick of counting your cash. I have a tikka M595 like yourself in 22.250, and the only change I've made is to replace the wooden stock with a McMillan fibre glass stock. The reason for this is because my right eye is failing and I've switch to shooting left hand, so I had the stock made to fit the right hand action with left hand cheek peice. I'm lead to believe that trigger systems for the M595 are limited, and to be honest, with a little tinker the standard trigger is very good. I was going to re-barrel the ri
