Nice looking bit of kit. I take it your target shooting with it?
Depending on your barrel twist, this will dictate what bullets you shoot.
I use a T3 Varmint with a 1:8 twist. I use mine for game and target.I find that a heavy bullet works best (75g A-max) .
A rule of thumb is the 1:12 twist light bullets 40 to 55grain and 1:8,1:7 twist for heavy bullets 6o grain upwards.
If it's a tight twist barrel you should try some Prive Partizn 223 match.... very cheep and great for long range.
All the best
ive got it down for target & vermin, but before i use it in the field i want to see what its capable of & its limits... its a 1:12 twist, so as you say, ill be using 55g max.

picked up my new rifle yesterday, .223 varmint with a T8 up front & a nikko 6-24x56 on top..
looking forward to getting it down Bisley in the next few weeks to put it through its paces & to find what ammo it likes...
I'm going to try & get a few different makes of ammo so i can give it a good test..
i appreciate each rifle is different, but what do all you .223 shooters prefer ?
also what trigger kits are recommended ?
cheers..

ive used dowlings in the past, they screw cut, re-crowned & proofed my ruger 10/22T for £70 a while back.. done a perfect job... it was a few years back though..
6 months ago i got joe from barnet to do another .22lr barrrel, cut, re-crown but not proof for £40.
& ive just got my new .223 remmy screw cut & recrowned for £, looks a top job..
Winnyman, why would you say steer clear of Dowlings, what bad experience have you had from them ? i know neil well & he always goes out of his way to help...

Still plenty of the white stuff up your way Rich, its pretty much all gone down here. Well done anyway..........
doesnt seem to be clearing from the fields... mind you, it was freezing today...

left the house before sunrise to make an early start... arrived about 6.30 & it was just turning light...
as today i was mainly working hedge rows which were on steep banks i decided to take my Jill & smallest hob just so they would be much more of a chance of bolters... well that was the plan..
threw the long-net around the first small set of 8 or so holes which were on an open piece of land.. entered the two ferrets, waited for a while, then the ferrets appeared, let them go back down again & shortly afterwards they appeared & were showing no interest.. picked up & moved onto the next set...
the next sets were the hedges, long netted them & entered the ferrets, after a few minutes i heard screams from under, located them at 5 foot, no chance, next screamer at 4 foot, no chance.. all they were doing was killing under & not a single bolter... as the day went on it was pretty much the same...
the last set i netted up produced two, one i reached down to get that was at the mouth of the entrance & another that was caught in the net...
loads of kills under & only two in the bag... better than nothing i suppose.. still nice to get out in the morning...
a few shots..

please don't snare or shoot foxes as they are NATIVE and not introduced.
i wouldnt shoot a fox for no reason, but whats that got to do with anything, if a fox is been a pest then it should be disposed of...

i can see what your trying to do being good on paper as it were. but be very carfull fella , this big day with loads of strangers all out ferreting with dogs , guns sounds like a recapee for disaster.
you only need some inexperianced shooters, and some lees than obediant dogs , and you will be in a hole world of hurt.
i hope all goes well and evrybody has a good day but as i said just be carefull kid
couldn't agree more....

when i first started to use add-ons i had the same problem with getting the crosshairs in focus... using the scope in day time the crosshairs were bang-on, when i added the add-on, it went pair shaped...
now before i attach the unit i give the eye relief a few turns & all is good..
have you tried adjusting the eye relief before putting the unit on ?

nice work jamie... what sort of distance can you see with your unit ? be nice to see some pictures through it...

wouldn't it be possible to have the box placed horizontally, then the squirrel can enter from the side, then it will have to cross the trap to get the bait, also the roof of the tunnel will help prevent any foul catches ?
