Hi all. Just wondering if any whippet men could help me with something that's been bugging me for a while now. I have an 18 month old whippet (dog). He's a great little lad but I just don't understand why he looks so much different to other whippets I see. Body wise he looks great but his ears are so big and always pricked up! It doesn't bother me but I am just curious really as every other whippet I see has different shaped ears. This is the link to his profile and picture on the whippet archives http://thewhippetarchives.net/details.php?id=179260 As you will see, he has a dec

Excellent advice as always lads. Thanks a lot.

My whippet is a year old now and I often let him have a roam in a local field and I have been training him to come back to me using treats which isn't going too bad. The problem I have is that I have slipped him on a couple of bunnies (which he has just missed) and after he has been on a chase he is a sod to get back to me. It's almost like he is so excited by what's happened that it makes him hyper- he just runs towards me and past me almost as if he is playing with me. My question is this- is this just down to the fact that he is still an excitable pup? Can anyone offer any advice on how

Im a massive fan of the Collie bred lurcher,as long as it does,nt come from the Midlands, but to say they are the only "real dog",possibly will get the response you set out for,Muppet. Out of interest why do you say to avoid getting one from the midlands? Cheers

Dont know if it helps but my pup cut himself a couple of months back. I put this stuff on the wound and it helped dry it out and heal. http://www.petsathome.com/shop/veterinary-antibacterial-powder-40g-by-vetzyme-36453

That's true. There that kid who is slating me for slating him. Dogs sniffing grass doesn't see a rabbit. Anybody with an ounce of brain would hiss something at the dog get its attention and then show it the rabbit. But oh nooooo, not the new breed of hunter. Better to watch the dog, do nothing, go home then post a question on here asking if its normal. Yes, it's normal but only one side of the f***ing lead is normal!!!! I dunno maybe its just me lol.You ever thought about changing your name to 'Bore'?
-
That's probably true. However, there are an awful lot of older people on here who are stuck up there own arse and have a 'how dare a young novice have the audacity to ask me a question about hunting' attitude. I am young and learning with a young pup. I have no one in my family/ friends circle to ask so I come on here the other day to ask a genuine question and I was basically told I am an idiot. What am I meant to do after that? Try and do it myself and risk ruining the dog only to be told I am a w@nker by the older lads on here? Us novices can't win with some of you lot.

Its posts like this. That make you wonder.Who do these people learn off if anyone. I must have learnt from the same person who taught you how to write a sentence.

This is the first dog i have ever owned and i am new to it all. I didnt say i let him off the lead to chase things. Even with my limited knowledge i know thats not sensible at his age. as i said, i have never owned a dog before and i thought i asked a reasonable question. i admit i dont know much about dogs and would like to learn, hence the reason why i joined this forum. A whippet is a sighthound and i just thought its a bit strange that hes constantly got his nose to the floor rather than looking around whilst walking. Considering the fact i know very little about dogs i dont think

No mate, very rare. I don't think I've ever seen a young pup sniff the ground...... Seriously, is this what your asking??? Jesus f**k. The answers in the thread header!!! I fear for these young dogs on here. Grumpy old man I only asked a question. Were you bullied at school?
-
I appreciate your advice lads. I suppose at 6 months old I maybe expecting too much.

I have a 6 month old whippet and recently whilst walking him I have seen the odd bunny. However, he doesn't notice them as he is always too busy sniffing the ground. Is this common in young pups?

Thanks guys. The names which feature most on his pedigree are Lynperry, saxoncroft, Laguna and Nimrodel.
