  1. Luckily my garden is split into two and all the interesting things (ferrets, chickens etc) are in the top end, so to get up there the pup has to jump. I started with a plank about 6" high and have built it up gradually. Even though the pup goes over it like its not there, I will leave the jump at this height for another month at least.

    Hawking Day

Went for my first ever days hawking with Harris Hawks today with 'Hawk On The Wild Side' from Milton Keynes. WHAT A F@@@@ING BRILLIANT DAY Very windy so not ideal for bolting bunnies and the birds didnt like it too much either, but we got about 6 flights and caught 2, one of which was a really spectacular flight (well it was to me!) in a small spinney. The bloke that took us out was very knowledgeable and VERY patient, and made it a memorable day. Unfortunately when we got back to his car, some b*****d scum had smashed the drivers and rear windows, stealing his mobile phone. :re
  3. I've never had a pure-bred before either Bullet, so we are both in the same boat My bitch is 3 months old and certainly has no confidence problems around the house and she runs my beddy/whippet ragged She is a bit shy outside the house but no more than I would expect from a pup. Her recall is pretty good but she hates the lead at moment but that will come with time. Full sister to my pup from a previous mating.
  4. This litter is from Lincolnshire mate, must be a different one.
  5. My pup Luna, 12 weeks old. Sooty Sam lines. First meeting with my ferret. First meeting with my sons gerbil! My mate has 1 black dog pup left in this litter if anyone is interested. Lunas sire, 'Supa Blue'
  6. No Wilky, decided on a Sooty Sam bred pup. Fair bit less than the others I was talking about, but still a lot more than you would pay for a lurcher.
  7. Picked her up today, well chuffed!
  8. Does anyone know anything about the Germanica (dont know if that is spelt correctly) line of whippets?
  9. I am considering putting a whippet over my 1st cross Beddy/whippet and I am hoping someone out there with experience of this cross could give me some info. What coat type/colour can I expect from the pups? My bitch is a fawn smooth/broken coated. Will the pups throw to the classic grey rough coated type? or does the colour depend on the whippet stud? Or is there no way of telling? I will attempt to get a photo up of the little bitch.

    Hawking Day

I've been given a 'Red Letter' type day, hunting with Harris Hawks. What I want to know, as a complete hawking novice, is what part of the season should I book my day, it is valid from October to March. Should I go for the longer days of October before the clocks change (will the birds be fit enough then?) or should I go for the end of the season when the birds have had a good (hopefully) season behind them. Or will it make no bloody difference!
  11. As far as I know, I dont know anyone on this site. I keep myself to myself and will probably post only very occasionaly. I would not consider myself to be the 'real deal' or a 'hard-core hunter' (whatever that is) and I kill very little game throughout the year. Does that mean I am not welcome on this site?
  12. Has anyone any experience of a Bighorn (ooo-eer missus) possibly looking to buy a 3.1TD LWB (1993 > 1996), apparently the 3.0 should be avoided! Any specific problems I should be looking out for when I test drive one? Just trying to gather as much info before parting with the hard-earned!
  13. Hi everyone, just moved over from smoochers. Looks like a well run site, well done web-master I've had lurchers and the odd terrier for the last 20 years, used to do a lot but just mooch about nowdays. Only 2 dogs now, a half dead Hancock bitch and a 2 year old 1st x beddy/whippet and a couple of stinkers. Unfortunately I dont think I know anyone on this site (or smoochers for that matter) and I am not much of talker so dont expect too many posts from me, but I will be skulking about in the background most days!
