  1. Saw a post here just recently about larsen trap springs and how they should be tensioned but can't find it now. Question is, should you put more tension into the spring in a larsen or fold it backwards against itself?? While I am here. Would the guy who posted the fox trap made out of two IBC frames post another couple of pics please. Cheers all. Beef.
  2. Try calling the Forbes Arms hotel at Alford. They should be able to help.

    Pheasants

Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone has used a mains electric fence for around the pheasant pen. Batteries are a hassle and I have just realised that there is a mains fence about 40 yards away. What I am wondering is if it would mean me getting the phessies ready cooked if they touched it.????
  4. You probably know but out there they have cattle dogs called heelers. Their job is to harrass the cattle into moving by nipping at the cattles heels. This to me is the best EVER sign of natural selection. As you can understand the cattle don't really like their heels being chewed on by the dog so their natural reaction is to lash out at which point the dogs duck under the offending foot. Now. If they don't duck fast enough then we have a dog with a caved in skull who won't breed anymore and so the evolution process goes on. Maybe just me but I think this selection process is just brilliant.
  5. Hi folks. I have a bunch of cubs in a wood where we release some pheasants and I was wondering if any of you guys have used any other baits than meat. I put a rabbit in it the other day and by next morning it was covered with eggs and the maggots will soon follow. Any ideas appreciated.

  9. A friend was telling me today about someone he knows down in Yorkshire who is having huge success with one of these. This one cost £300+ though. Anyone use a cheaper one that they could recommend Cheers. Beef.
  10. cheers gents. I suppose my ladder trap complied with most of the suggestions on here but I will try the wire fringe down inside the ladder. I think that this time I will go for a vertical funnel for a start then if that isnt successful I will do a conversion and so have both options. Thanks anyway. Beef
  11. I am going to make a cage trap next time home and wondered which you guys thought was best. A couple of years ago I made a ladder trap and had NO success. There were hoods in it but they got out. I had clipped the decoy and one day I sat away from the trap to watch it and I could see it looking up at the ladder and trying to flutter up to it. In the end I closed off most of the ladder and thought that this time I would go for the vertical funnel. Thoughts please. Had 19 magpies so far and 6 hoods so a good start to the season. I have an old guy who helps out and he has three larsen out and

  13. Can someone help with a problem I have with a cocker spanial who gets severe pains in his stomach every 5/6 weeks.the problem lasts a few days. The vet has done xrays and test but all appears to be normal and they have prescribed milk a magnesia when the problem starts, which does appear to help but we can't work out how it happens in the first place. He is on hypoallergenic food. It is upsetting to see my dog in pain. Any help would be appreciated.
