  1. As do good chillies in vodka. Just leave in the fridge for about a month.
  2. I have a Swaro rangefinder and I have pinged up to 2300m in good conditions. The downside is that the aiming point is a circle which is difficult to hold onto targets whilst pinging. They do need to be mounted onto a tripod for any meaningful long range work. For short range, below 300m, hand held is OK. I cannot fault the performance though.
  3. Ah, just a flexible waterproof plastic folder that has all my come ups for all natures of ammo for that particular rifle. I also record all shots fired so I have an idea of how many rounds I have rattled through the tube. Its basically a log book for each rifle, bit anal but because I use quite a few natures of ammo, I can keep track. Good shooting by the way, pays to know your trajectory.
  4. To be happy zeroing high at 100m you need to 'prove' the trajectory of your ammo. DO NOT rely on makers claims, they are often way out. By all means zero at 100m, but then prove the drop at 125, 150, 175, 200 and further if you shoot further by shooting at tgts and getting a group. I zero all my rifles at 100m (not yards) and as each of my rifles has its own nirex folder I make 'come ups' for each load. I then prove these come ups by firing each load. That way I know what and where my bullet is doing on its way downrange. A lot of folks use the 175m -200m zero because it allows a gre
  5. Hi SH, the .270 is not for everyone. Some love it some hate it. I think a lot depends on your own experience with firearms. If you have done a lot of shooting and have handled various calibres without problem you may be comfortable with the .270. If your experience is limited and you have not done anything with firearms that are a bit more 'barky' you may find that the .270 especially without a mod, may induce flinch. The best advice I can give is to see if you can get out and shoot twenty or thirty rounds with it. Also, have a go at grouping; not the three rounds that many use but five rounds
  6. The thing with most info on rifles is that, as always, personal preference comes into the advice most folks give you. Also, the advice given by the 'experts' can be very much influenced by the current hot make or calibre. Start from your intended target. Decide on a calibre, in this case .223, decide on a range of bullet weights suitable for your chosen target, then decide on a twist rate and acceptable barrel length. After this have a look at makes and models using your wallet to temper your lust. If you can, speak to those who have similar models and if possible get a shot or two. That m
  7. Many thanks dymented. I have been reading through many of the topics and can see there is a wealth of knowledge and information here, hopefully I will have a little to add without being too contentious.
  8. Hallo all, just a quick note of introduction. I have been shooting, reloading and hunting all my life, spent a long time in the Forces and now back to being a civvy git.
