i had one of hancocks 1/2 breds about 10 years ago. was very good bitch, caught most types of game, one of the best lurchers ive seen for hunting up. I don't think id go back to hancock for one now though.

Anybody find out what was in the fecking hole???

Stick your head in, an see what it smells like! Not always 100% accurate, but better than askin people who can't even see it!

Your dog looks very similar to mine, mate tbh I had to have a 2nd look to check it wasn't hahaha!

Dunno about most vets but theres no way mine will sell me antibiotics without seeing the dog (and charging me). Anyone know anywhere you can get antibiotics easily and legit??

I had a kelpie cross that was given to me from a pet home as they dint want her, that hadbeen trained not to chase and i had same problem as you.... the only way i got her to chase was to take both my lurchers out in the daytime and when they marked a rabbit in cover i had to jump in and bolt it, when the rabbit bolted i had chased the rabbit whilst calling the new dog and trying to get her excited..... after 4 or 5 she goes she didnt need to help.
Also try to do this where no farmers/walkers can see you, it looks proper amateur! Worked for me and she turned into a very good catcher of most things

If you got him hunting pheasants (which would be pretty easy) he would probably be pretty handy for long range dogging in,lol but im guessing he'd be hard mouthed as hell for actual gun dog work?? Looking at some responses you get to virtually any topic you post on here and you'd be forgiven for thinking that is some one has perfected teaching monkeys to type!
Mind you, for small walk around days he be a one dog beating team!
Good luck

I've bolted a fox from a gorse patch with a ferret and dug to a ferret that was right up to a fox..... very lucky ferret not a mark on her!

I dont feed a lurcher all year just to grab rabbits in a net I must admit to sometimes doubling (or trebling) my ferrets up though!

Last year i was getting 5s and 6s once a week for sept-nov on one farm. this year there is hardly a rabbit on there. It gets roadsided by rifle tw*ts most nights

Stroller, if you've hunted rabbits all your life you must like doing it so if the rabbits get out of control itl be more sports for the yanks that release them......

treat it same as fox head..... look on snowdonia taxidermy website for chemicals

ive got a bull-grey x saluki-grey and a collie-grey x beddie-grey both are pretty decent (i think, anyway-lol) all rounders but ive never ran them on anything heavy. But so long as you get them used to working all styles as youngsters then most crosses should do ok

I dug to my poley and broke through to her and a pair of foxes earlier this season. She went straight to them but the other 2 ferrets wouldn't go near em

You're lucky to have more foxes lads, where i am (North Wales) anything and
everything is going down in numbers apart... from crows/magpies and bloody cats!

I was ferreting recently, when my lurcher bitch- buddie, gave a strong mark on a reasonable size burrow. Nothing out of the ordinary until i entered two unexprienced jills. After they worked the burrow for 10 mins they came out very jumpy, so i put the better girls in ... one came out chittering like a loony and the other (socks!) stayed in. After a while i got a mark on the box at 18ish inches but the ferret wouldnt stick, backing off to 4 feet then creeping back to the mark. Thinking she'd killed her rabbit and was messing about i took the turf off, went down a spde and broke through. Buddie has seen scores of digs so it took me completley by suprise when she shoved passed me, charged into the hole and drew out a very p****d of vixen!!! Another fox was in there curled up, but slipped down a very small tube.
I have bolted foxes with ferrets from gorse bushes, but ive never dug to a fox with one before... Has anyone had a similar experience?? And also how does that fit in with the hunting ban, LoL!!
With hindsight i should have read my dogs mark, and gone home for the terrier, but thats hunting for you!

People who take they're dogs to work with 'em stand a fair chance of having a decent dog .... when im bringing on a pup i take it round the mole traps... ive never got one to mark a mole (lol) , but its amazing how many chances you get for the pup
