  1. I've only had 1 .............

And he was a f.ucking nightmare!

To be fair he was far too much dog for a normal person, and a big mistake on my part was buying him not knowing what he was (I knew he was a Bull X obviously)

He attacked and bit me 3 times (all 3 times when out walking and he decided he wanted to try and kill other dogs) The first time was at 6 moths old, maybe I should have dealt with him then.

Everything was on the menu for him, sheep, horses, cows, terriers, and yes I have had dogs around me all my life and did try to break him to stock.

When he was in the house he was a pleasure to be with, an big soft dope, but as soon as he went out he switched on and that was that, a maniac and a liability.

I'll never have another, my nerves couldn't cope!

I'd be the first to admit that I made a mistake getting what turned out to be a "fast lane" dog, simply too much dog for general mooching, he needed to be out killing stuff all the time, and to be dead honest I wasn't prepared to risk my liberty taking him!

Dog is no longer, I could have passed him on, but he was already no good for serious work after he'd collapsed one night last year, I know now that I should have let him go then, but instead I spent £1300 getting him back ..............

That dog cost me a relationship, a home and an awful lot more.

    We live and learn.

    RIP Spike

" Phew "..... :o I almost bought that pup myself...!!!!

My Own now retired bull X has been the best dog i`ve ever owned, and in her day has done all you`d expect from a Bull X,

A very steady bitch, worked with all sorts of other dogs and never a fight..

And back in 2006 Novice Obedience champion at Chatsworth

    Yis Mars..

  2. Besides, if I win this, the photo will be hanging in the Saatchi Gallery in London. I, for one, would love nothing more than to see a photo with a lurcher in it hanging in a prestigious gallery.

Thats a really good pic, and i agree with the above quote....

    Mars..

  3. Start at home in a confined space where the pup cant get past you.

then when you catch the pup as it`s trying to get past you...lol...give it loads of praise.

Eventually the penny will drop that bringing stuff back to you is a good thing...

  4. A few years back, Walking through a park / Green space on a summers day weekend with lots of people and kids about...

My Bull X who was off the lead walking to heal, took her self off to the brook that was around a hundred yards away down a bit of a bank, i thought nothing of it as i assumed she was just going to get a drink & cool off...

As i turned to call her she was coming back towards me with a Large White Duck in her mouth.. and lots of people pointing and kids shouting "LOOK MUM" !!!!

Luckily she is soft mouthed with anything that does`nt bite back, and once i told her to put it down the duck just waddled off back to the brook....lol...

Not really an odd retrieve just an odd situation....lol..

  5. Next year I am planning on breeding my First x bull grey bitch she is four year old now and has done everything I have asked of her she has ran doubled up with some of the best dogs up this neck of the woods and to my surprise she has made a fool of a lot of them, ok I have a laugh and joke with the owners of the dogs she has ran with and try and soften the blow with them on how a first x bull grey just made a fool of there champion bred lineage salukie lurchers it is all in jest but what I am always told by them are if that was in a massive open place like the fens then the outcome would of been different (but we are not on the fens) and probable never will be ! the only thing that I would change in this bitch is that I would give her one more gear so she can be there all the way on the more open ground that we hunt ! I would like to pass everything this bitch has onto her pups but with a extra gear !!!!! Any sugestions would be welcome ...............

I`me looking for a suitable bitch for my dog, my reasons are as a back up plan should my current pup not be up for it....

My dog is 25" 28kg 1/2 Whippet 1/4 Grey 1/4 Bull, He`s a decent day time dog with a good nose and is able to tackle whatever his nose will find

I.M.O. This would add the "extra gear" that your looking for...Give us a p.m. if you`d like to know anything more..

  7. i cant understand why pepole are using bullx for rabbits and ferreting when there so so so much better x for rabbits..

ive got a bullx well she wont be going for the rabbits thats for sure,

bullx allways damage the rabbits with there rough mouth....

Firstly, with a comment like, " bullx allways damage the rabbits with their rough mouth"

that shows how much you really know about the a Bull X Lurcher,

Secondly, A person might want to work their dog to a variety of Game as a lucher should be...

And Thirdly, have you thought that people wouldn`t want to tell YOU about what they do with their dogs

    "loose Lips Sinks Ships" ;)

    :hmm: Mars....

well yes yes ok, u know the lot dont u...lol

I dont profess to know it all, but i`ve seen enough on this site to know it`s full of Antis, grasses, and computer hunters....

I`me not saying that you are any of the above,

But some thought before you post will in the long run save you and this site a lot of grief

    Good luck,

All i can add to the thread is my own Quite recent expierance !

I got rid of a pup that i`de bred as he wasn`t interested and at 18 month old i thought he wouldn`t be making the grade.

The lad who took him on Knew the above, and 12 months on he has a very well trained dog doing all he asks of it....

What kind of sick minded person sits at home making videos trying to insight other people to attack another person cos their skin colour is different to his own...

  11. i new somebody who brought a 13month old airedale greyhond i lamped the dog a few times it seemed to have a amaizing nose but wasnt over blessed with bottle or brain perhaps thats why it was sold to the lad i new. thats my experience but its only based on one dog. atb trigger

airdale with not much bottles cant see that

I'm not surprised at all actually. I dont even know where one would go to find an Airedale that could do it.

I thought over the pond their is where the Airedale has been kept as a worker....

  12. Well how wierd that this thread has been bought back to the front again...!!! :)

The truth is, I Gave up on my pup when he was around 18 month old......

And i have to say now..."I WAS WRONG"

I rehomed him to a relative of a lad who has one of the other pups, and i rehomed him as a rabbit lamping dog as i did`nt believe that he had it in him for anything else,

A shame really as he was a good dog in all other ways, good coat, feet, decent speed good turn, and was very easy to train....

However His new owner texed me the other day to let me know "HOW WELL" he is now doing,

So i think i should have been more patient,

Just goes to show that in this game their are always lessons to be learned

    Mars....

I think it was a good litter as all the ones that I know of are doing well.I don't like to say it..........but I told you so mate, lol.

Like i said above bud " I WAS WRONG "

But that said i dont have any regrets, as my goal for the litter has been achived, dogs that are able to course, catch, & dispatch a variety of quarry and the lad that now has my pup has a "Very Well Trained" dog thats also very able.

I`ve also met some decent dogmen {yourself included} and i have if needed future bloodstock to breed back to if thats what i decide to do...

    Yis Mars...

You have most certainly achieved a decent result,I think the litter was quite exceptional. You are welcome to use mine if ever you want a bitch lining.

    Cheers!

If this Airedale X makes the grade, In a few years time i just may be looking you up again, dont be a stranger anyway.. I always like to hear how my pups are getting on, and theirs a few down your neck of the woods...

  14. My pup is coming on well, very confident and loves to greet other dogs out on a walk, and to the anoyance of some people she likes to say hello to them too....

She too loves to fetch and grudgingly returns to me....lol...

I have my Dog that she likes to try and follow and copies his scenting skills, thankfully her recall is already far better than his.....!!!!!

So all good so far....Pic taken 6/11/10

  16. she about 22" tts...yeah mate fields small up here...so there usually fast short runs!!! i already have a few local lads wantin a pup off her and i will be keepin one for myself!!! i know a decent whippet ..but i am worried it will make the pups too fine!!???(it will be my firt litter...and the dogs so am going to try and put as much thought into it as possible)

    thanks!!

I think that 1st you need to ask yourself, is she really worth breeding from, try to be honest with your self and if she has any faults even though they may be minor,

You perhaps need to look for the sire to not have those faults..

Is your bitch Ideal for the work that you do and will you be using the planned pup for the same type of work

A lot of people have mentioned a dash of terrier blood to add some fire, i agree but terrier blood also adds brains and ease to train, as terriers just want to please their owners, a bull whippet type perhaps,

Good luck and well done for sounding out others opinions and giving it plenty of thought ahead of time....
