  1. Where can i get a decent ferreting spade, can any one list me some good makes and what one's are best for the job. Thanks.
  2. How much does Mick Dadd sell the Mk1 collars for cos im looking to buy one??
  3. There 393s just get a load of them there dirt cheap on ebay i think its £2 for 10 or something like that.
  4. I think its down to the experience of the ferret,I personally don't think colour has got anything to do with it. When i last went out ferreting my mate had a young white ferret and polecat coloured ferret and i found that the polecat ferret was much better just because she had much more experience. I suppose the determination of the ferret also plays a role.
  5. I think its not a ferret collar its a terrier collar at 15ft does this still work with the Mk1 ferret finder?
  6. a wee tip go outside away from electrical appliances as these can interfere with the signal and try it as do fence lines sometimes :icon_eek:if you know anyone else get them to test your box and collars then you will know for sure :yes:give the little bit on the collar were the battery goes a little scrape or a rub with emery cloth or something similar as they sometimes get dirty TO be honest i have tryed both of these didn't make a difference could it be anything else??
  7. I havent tested the receiver with a different collar but it pick something up and didnt stop beaping and the closest thing to me was a TV 12 ft away. I just gave the collar a shake and now the receiver will pick it up from 2ft away??!
  8. I recently got a second hand Mk1 reciever and a Mk1 collar both 15ft, the reciever works fine cos iv'e picked up other things before but got the collar today and when i put the reciever right up to 15ft it can only pick up collar from 1ft away. Ive put new batteries in both the collar and the reciever but it can only pick the collar up from 1ft on on max. Ruined my first day of ferreting with my ferrets. dont worry i didnt go ferreting and found out it didnt work just tested it before. Can someone please give me some soultions and ways of sorting out. Thanks
  9. Thanks guys you've been really helpful, im coming back home today will see what she's like. Ive just bought 15ft Mk1 ferret finder,15ft collar and some bisley nets, im going to see what they will be like on a small warren. I will keep you posted on the biting tonight and what they're like to work, i dont expect wonders but one rabbit would be nice lol
  10. I put my hand down and she sniffs it puts her mouth round it slowly and its as if instinct kicks in she then will slowly bite harder and harder till she draws blood and then hanging on but i have been ignoring her when she does it. Ive been away and my little brother handled her today he said she did exactly the same thing she opened her mouth and then froze just before she went to bite after about a second she thought about it and pulled away since then she hasnt bit him or anyone, maybe this shows progress?
  11. The center i volenteer at the harris's are hunted alot in the winter, and the falcon every other day. But you will see what the birds can be like if you help out, when the bird is taken out of the aviary and the equipment is put on. Also when you try and clean an aviary out with a chick in the parents go crazy.
  12. Thanks for all the advice guys, she settling in quite well, i have been using one glove still but feeding her with bare hand while holding her.She still isn't ok to handle without one glove but she's come along way. I think most of the bites are playfull but they still draw blood...Is this playfull she doesnt exactly hang on. The only time she has properly went for me was on the first day and she hung on to the inside of my finger since then she has bitten but no way near as hard, could this still be aggresivness? or just being a bit boystruss not knowing how hard she is alowed to bite?
  13. How do you use ferretone and will handling it with gloves and slowly changing to skin help
  14. Hi i recently got my two jills they are a year old, one is lovely never bites the other has just bitten me i would say more than a playfull bite, it broke the skin and went in quite far. How can i stop her from biteing me ive been told not to flick her so what else can i do to stop her she has already bitten three people, which was embarresing as iv'e only had them 2 days.
  15. What!,THE BIGGEST PROBLEM with Falconry IS its just that easy to get into! There are no laws concerning ownership of birds, anyone can go out,buy a bird and try and train it,Harris Hawk in one hand "how to" book in the other.Thats why the general standard of falconry is poor in the uk.Sure there are some brilliant Falconers and im priveleged to know some of the best in the counrty, but for every one great Falconers there are twenty shite ones! too many blokes who have had one or two Harrises come on sites like this and dish out advice to other newbies.Ive flown hawks and falcons and still dont re
  16. Mate for christ sake dont pay them, you'll be doing the shit jobs to start and you should not be paying them to volenteer.
  17. Have you thought about volenteering at a falconry center thats what i do mate, iv'e done it for 1.1/2 years now, ive learnt alot. What you getting a Female Harris im guessing? Have you had any experience with birds of prey?I doubt you will find one but if you want to try register on the international falconry forum and ask on there mate much more likely to get a response.

    Wanted

I know people who breed them but i would like to know first what you want to do with it? From the way you've worded your post mate you sound like you dont really know what your doing. Are you gonna keep it as a pet or fly it or what? You dont get silly tame Birds of prey especially not owls mate.
  20. The problem you will find with falconry is that there a lot of di**he**s involved which im not going to go into....Having said that there are some people in falconry who's advice within the sport is priceless and are generally very nice people. You dont need a licence to hunt most game species in most areas in falconry as long as you stay within the seasons(october to the end of january).Falconry is not easy to get into as you must learn the how to look after a Bird of prey and train one, this is not easy and will take a very long time round about a year. In order to learn you must find a decen
  21. You cant hunt deer in the Uk with eagles.Only fox and hare, trust me if you want to try it one day you got alot of training to do before you can own one, there very hard to look after you have to devote half of your life to them for 40+ years.
  22. I go hunt with BOP and my mentor hunts game with his Peregrine absolutely amazing to see, probably the most amazing thing ive seen watching a Pere stoop through the sky at cock Pheasant.
  23. Hi im from east of suffolk and i have not been into hunting for very long, im a beginner i would say. Iv'e done alot of shooting rabbits lol with air rifles and the occasional lamping with a 22 rimfire. But to be honest im not here to find out more about shooting, I do alot of hunting with Birds of prey and am now interested in working a ferret under them. I am currently looking to buy a ferret and if anyone has any jill's for sale or any offspring soon to come then i would be interested depending on where you live on buying one? Thanks zach
