  1. Crossbows are illegal through the whole of the uk! And have been for a good few years! Either give the clown a good kicking or tell you're local wildlife officer- I've had to pull crossbow bolts out of deer and lambs before now. not pleasant.

Edit to say I meant illegal for hunting not just in general-should'e worded it better.

  2. Ii'd say go for it with a .270 for the sika- and go for a .22 centrefire for foxes .222/.223/22-250. But as said before get some serious deer shooting experience before knocking over any sika- as anyone will tell you the real work starts after pulling the trigger, dragging/skinning/ butchering etc properly and safely is hard work. On another note I have before now been told to shoot sika through the shoulder to stop them running has anyone else?(this was advice from a gamedealer/professional stalker?- they are seriously hard beasts, even compared to reds/sambar it takes a lot to bring them down!

  3. Theres a guy Ian farrington? I think that does wild boar shooting in devon- very reasonably priced and its done by moonlight so it's something a bit different. If you want his details p.m me. Or if its driven boar basswood sporting agency have a good reputation in eastern europe. If its pig sticking with dogs you're after then Australia/ New Zealand is the place!

p.s I am in no way connected with his outfit have just heard very good reports!

  4. Obviously you are fully aware of my personal situation and why I can or can't get to a bank? I think not. I couldn't care less if you can get a cheque cashed on an island in the atlantic. I can't. Hence why it clearly states paypal only on the ad to avoid confusion. I do accept responsibilty for not pming promptly- since offering free deer stalking my inbox has been more than a little bit busy and I was a bit heavy with the ignore button. for that I apologise.

  5. If you're looking to do some pig hunting in the UK I know a chap that does shooting by night down in dorset. I don't think he charges too much as he's doing it as pest control really- unfortunately hunting with dogs is illegal in the UK but if you were really keen I know a couple of people/places in New Zealand/Australia that would take you out for nothing. Most of the boar shooting in the UK is kept really quiet apparently, I've been looking for years and haven't found any land with pigs on. Hope that helps. Ross.

  6. I decided to have a bit of a clear out and have a few jackets I don't really wear- first up is a seeland beater jacket, worn a few times on a couple of stalks but no still perfect condition, size 44- fits me well and I'm 6ft 3- £65 posted. Next is a barbour border jacket, this does have a small hole in the back about half a centimetre diameter but it has been professionally repaired so is still 100% waterproof- again size 44 and only worn a couple of times and is in near new condition apart from the hole- £50 posted. Finally I have a mens full length drizabone lightweight oilskin riding jacket size Xl, the kind that reaches down to your ankles, again worn a couple of times but don't really have any use for it- another impulse buy £85 posted. Also I have an Akubra Kiandra felt hat unused just out the box size 59cm sent over from Australia only £50 posted. Or make me an offer for the whole lot if you want! Knock a fiver off each price if you want to pickup in carlisle as well! Payment as a gift via paypal please or cash on collection. Cheers and ATB, Ross

p.s sorry for the lack of photos but I don't have a camera at the moment- if you google any of them they are easy to find!

  7. For sale is my Lisenfeld 8x56 spezial- haven't had it that long but I need a new dog before lambing season kicks off so I'm afraid it has to go. Its got a few minor scratches on the paint but apart from that its optically perfect- if it goes by the end of the week I will throw in the rings for it- Its a 26mm tube I beleive- and some butler creek covers. Anyone will tell you that these are great scopes, usually compared to S&B and the likes but severely underrated! Recorded/insured delivery or pickup near carlisle. Payment by Paypal or cash on pick up. £210 posted or £200 picked up.

    Thanks and ATB,

    Ross

  8. Look at r macleods of tains second hand list- tons of swaros and Schmidt and Benders in your price range! Just google it and click on the second hand optics list. Even the ones that aren't listed as good condition are still 100% optically perfect. Hope that helps. atb

  9. That'd be the ILA(individual learning account) you would of heard of, its not available unless you're in scotland- I'm trying at the moment I'll let you know how I get on. The british deer society also do a limited number of bursaries for young stalkers looking to do dsc1 and 2.

  10. Just thought I'd give you a bit of advice from a farmers point of view, if I were you I'd stop the sneaky poaching, farmers do notice but we choose not to do anything, having a few rabbits nicked is nothing compared to having your tyres slashed/windows smashed after a confrontation- just to point out I am not in anyway saying thats something you would do, but how are we to know? Also the attitude that you are doing the farmer a favour isn't going to get you anywhere fast, trust me farmers know how much people want land to shoot over and are constantly innundated with requests- looking on it as a mutually beneficial arrangement is a better way to go about it.I can understand how hard it is for dog men especially to get permission thanks to bad press from the like of countryfile and an irresponsible few ruining it for the majority. If it were a few years ago I would of invited you up my way for a crack at the hares!

  11. Bull bars are illegal apparently unless they have been fitted since before may 2008? I think it was! But I'd just put it on anyway, I'd like to see them prove otherwise! Just don't ask a mechanic to do it like I did! :icon_redface:

  12. Surely meat from an animal that has been through as much stress as caused by being chased and brought down by a dog would not be worth eating? Surely anyone with a basic knowledge of meat knows that the release of stress hormones leads to a condition in the meat known as DFD(dark firm and dry)? This is the reason sheepdogs aren't used for loading abbatoir lorries! I've tasted meat from a severely stressed out bullock and it was awful, went to the dogs in the end. And before its said adrenaline does not have an effect on meat quality only hormones such as glucocorticoids do or so I have been told. By a vet.

  13. Just wonderng what sort of prices people are paying for .222 ammunition? Just got my variation back and wonderng now that I have 2 centrefires if it would be worth starting to reload? Is there any significant saving to be made given that my .270 shoots priv partizans reasonably well or is homeloading more about getting better accuracy? Apologies for my ignorance but reloading is one part of rifle shooting I'm yet to venture into.

    Cheers.
