  1. MEOPTA artemis 2000 7 X 50 Wide field of view absolutely astounding clarity thro the optics and a really fine X hair so it doesent obscure the subject. I cant for the life of me understand why any shooter would need anything bigger for a max shot of 225 yds. Most shots being between 50 Yds & 125 Yds ive seen air rifles with 10-25 X 56 optics on for a shot that you could take with open iron sights. Dont listen to the hype surrounding scopes, most have crap glass anyway. i agree with a large objective bell as this aids in poor light but a small Schmidt & Bender second h
  2. I use 3" Mags ELEY Fourlong out to 30 Yds in open fields with no runners ? For hedge bottom work and on the railway bankings i use 2.5" 6 shot and i,ve got a box of 2" that i use ocasionally in the back garden for rabbits and the ocasional Pheasant.
  3. As above in .22LR ? Cant seem to find one and really like the profile with short heavy barrell ! Target shooters stock ! If any one has one how much can i expect to pay and are they as good as they look ? Cheers !
  4. Thanks for all the advice guys ! I think it's fairly safe to say I won't be shooting dogs as I am a dog man my self ! I have a border terrier ! I won't be creeping up on any one, I've done it a couple of times and the results are not pretty........ The farmer will not committ to this scare mongering either altho it really does get his back up that people hunt on his land with dogs ! Being an old fashioned honest law abiding type he can't accept any explanation for their behaviour. I was shooting hare at the land owners request, firstly because he wanted a couple for the pot, secondl
  5. I don't think shooting a blokes dog is the answer, I'm not one for turning a blind eye either and then again I don't want to cause the land owner any problems either. I've known this guy for some time I went to school with his Son we both joined the Army together at 17 after spending every school holiday working on the farm harvesting, shooting trapping tidying up and generally keeping out of trouble. In the good old days ! I think shirts off and Oxford rules apply but I'm not sure a couple of 18 - 20 year olds would abide to the same rules. It's one thing having a punch up in a quiet
  6. Ooooooooops ! Same here ! Sorry mate, i got all excited when i saw the £250. Humble pie ! Humble pie !
  7. Thanks Flytie, I served in Afghan, 2001 afetr 9 11, 2005-06, again in 2006, & 2008, As a sniper 06 & 08. i,ve not seen that before but i thought .50 and not of the one shot one kill ethos. 3rd time lucky by the sounds of it. pretty impressive tho all the same.................... Bit of a trauma tho patrolling for days with a .50 Cal and Chubb !
  8. I have FAc for both Rim & Centre Fire, i dont belong to any club and as stated already by others, if you have land and reason to shoot and are decent & honest not to say law abiding you will have no problem.
  9. RicW, what sniper in Afghanistan ? a mile and a half taking out machine gunners ! Where has this come from ? What regiment was he from ! with a .50 maybe ? if he zeroed it the day before at that range ! Fixed are fine i use a meopta 7X50 on my .17HMR, On my .308 i use a Schmidt & Bender ! taken off a sniper rifle !
  10. Hello again WOZ ! And again i agree ! why ask for a valuation and then state you want top money for it ? i too think you should put it on flea bay, Good Luck !
  11. WOZ ! I was with .17HMR of the CZ Variety ! Nice Harriis Bipod meopta scope SAK Mod,
  12. PHEW !! Thanks guys, its not just me then ? i thought i was being a bit old fashioned there ? The thing is when i "much the same of some of youn have done" i,m sure got caught somewhere you shouldnt be, firstly deny everything, then lie a bit and then when that doesent work eat massive pieces of humble pie while you got your catapult elastic cut up or your air rifle stamped on ! Hard lessons im affraid ! But i wouldnt have fought fire with fire ! Coppers it is the next time i see them ?
  13. Drew, i might be interested in a second hand swarovski if the glass is good and it doesent fog up ? just to bang on a .22lr ?

  15. Just paid £9:00 per 50 @ the countryman DERBY.
  16. Richie, The feeling i got from the two Lads was not one of fear, ive just finished a 19 stretch with the Forces and i have approached a lot of people whilst carrying a weapon, Being told to put it down & "LETS SEE HOW HARD YOU ARE AGAINST THE TWO OF US" was not one of fear or intepidation. "My Dads got a gun do you want me to go fetch him ?" "is that your dog ? were gonna kill it" There is no Public right of way across the area of land where i shoot, i have had it cleared for .762 and can get 800mtrs to a WW2 rifle but at one area of the shoot. I walked the permission with the
  17. Hi, I,m fairly new on here altho i have not posted much i have been gleaning lots of information. I would like advice on the following please. One of my permission granted shoots which i have shot over for more than twenty years seems to be under siege ! I packed up my kit and headed off yesterday morning for an early potter about with my Rifle, after plotting up in my favourite corner of the field looking across a dip onto a hill bordered by a deralict train track with embankment on one side and thick hawthorne, bramble & scrub on the other, several hours passed i bagged 4
  18. Just my 2ps worth ! I would apply for SGC and i would buy a nice .410 SBS like a YILDIZ 3" Magmum & An O/U 12G sporter like a FABARM Multi Choke ? Then apply for a nice little rimmy .17 or .22 !
  19. X40 will suit the lower profile well but it wont gather that much light in fading conditions. I,ve just gone for a MEOPTA 7X50 Ive been looking at all sorts over the weekend and wanted to step up from the kind of scope found on Air Rifle's, not that there is any thing wrong with air rifles as i have several myself but i,m gonna be looking at dropping Bunnys out to at least 150 YDS and wanted good quality optics, ive not gone for a 3-9X50 because i would have probably left it on X7 Magnification any way and i,m not too fussed about zooming in & out and besides it confuses me
  20. I,m new on here and have spent some time reading up on several topics, A few pics of my border who isnt working yet !
  21. Thanks Guys, Much as i thought really, not that it matters much but if thats the case then it has to be better than eating a Rabbit thats had a couple of 6 shot in it. i think i,ll point this out to him when i next go up there. i,m looking forward to getting it set up and using it at distance, i,ve read the various threads with ref to sights on the .17HMR and have come to the conclusion the Leupold is the right one for me. I,ll keep you posted.
  22. after much deliberation and research I have opted for a CZ 452 Varmint with 16 inch barrell ! Leupold VX II scope SAK sound mod and a few other niceties ! This is all very well and I am looking forward to using this calibre on the land which I shoot however the land owner who I supply with healthy rabbit & hare has expressed his dis satisfaction with this after he has heard claims that the round fragments on impact splintering all over the carcass ? Is this the case as I for one am not into randomly drilling a ready source of food stuff ? Especially as my 4 year old eats more rabbit t
  23. Hornaday £27 for 100 in Aberdeen I have just phoned the outdoorsman about half an hour before reading this thread, i,ve just been quoted £30 for Federal and £27 for Hornaby ? It seems prices are still on the UP
