  1. Doubts have been cast on the system of firearms licensing in Durham following the murders in Peterlee. See http://psa.bizhostin.../whats_new.html A BBC "Inside Out" programme.
  2. BASC responds to calls for stricter firearms laws in Wales. 25th January 2011…………….……………………………………………….immediate release The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) has responded to calls for tougher firearms laws made by a Plaid Cymru Welsh Assembly member. Plaid Cymru member Chris Franks has called for a review of the UK’s firearms laws after being informed that in Wales 533 people under the age of 18 have been granted shotgun certificates over the last five years. Simon
  3. The "New" Airgun laws are to take effect very soon. THE CRIME & SECURITY ACT 2010 section which relates to the storage of airguns to prevent unauthorised access by people under 18 will (probably) come into effect on 10th February 2011. There are a couple of points which need making - This does NOT mean that airgun owners will have to install gun cabinets etc. People under 18 but over 14 can continue to use airguns "unsupervised" on private property with the owners permission etc. See http://psa.bizhosting.com/Interesting.html for more details and guidance. .
  4. From BASC today - "Just to let you know Shooting Times is attacking BASC this week for its opposition to the use of battery cages in game farming. Three game farms out of around 300 in the UK are using metal battery cages for pheasants and partridges. Cages damage shooting for three reasons: They’re bad for the welfare of the birds – mortality in cages can be 20%+ compared to 1-5% in pens and partridge boxes They’re bad for sales of game – there have been complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority about game being described as wild, natural and free range They
  5. Have your say on the future of game rearing in England before time runs out Dear all, Time is running out for everyone with an interest in game rearing and game shooting to have their say on the future of game rearing in England. Responses are invited from all interested organisations and individuals. Click here http://www.basc.org.uk/en/media/key_issues.cfm/cid/6BCCB7A5-0522-4F9C-97A3CF8F5423B63E to find out more and to read BASC’s draft response to Defra’s consultation. You may wish to use this as a guide to your own response. Please avoid your submission being classed
  6. It seems that campaigning for the coming general election has started, so BASC has set up a system to help us to let the candidates know OUR views, whilst at the same time getting their views, and making those views available to all shooters. I've posted a brief explanation and a link at - http://psa.bizhosting.com/whats_new.html or you can go there directly from http://www.basc.org.uk/
  7. If you are one of the "lucky" recipients of a letter from South Yorkshire Police recently, this may be of interest to you.... BASC tackles South Yorkshire Police over unhelpful letter BASC has criticised South Yorkshire Police for sending a letter to certificate holders in the county advising them to leave their gun cabinet keys with a friend if they are going away on holiday. The advice in the letter goes against Home Office Firearm Security Guidance. Compliance with this guidance is important for all firearms owners because non-compliance can put your certificate at risk.
  8. Me too, and I had an earlier one as well -I didn't open this one just in case - has the site been hacked by spammers?
  9. The Home Office have FINALLY published the figures for firearms and shotguns in England and Wales - after two years of waiting. Or have they? The figures for 2006/7 are missing completely, the 2007/8 figures are just three days under a year out of date, contain errors, and large chunks of data are missing altogether. see http://psa.bizhosting.com/whats_new.html It seems that the wonderful Firearms Licensing computer system we've all paid for is providing worse data later, rather than better data sooner !
  10. BOTH. Whilst I no longer beagle, I remain a supporter of the CA, but I shoot therefore BASC is the obvious choice. I tend to agree that you get what you pay for.
