  2. I think these are two very good events. http://www.gamefairireland.com http://www.irishcountryfair.com SM
  3. Is the Galloway Show going ahead this year? I heard through the grapevine that it may not happen. SM
  4. I must be getting old and senile. I could have sworn Gary said "....just go easy on the pup let it mature at its own speed and things will tick along fine.... " which, of course is good advice. Just goes to show you that you can't believe all you read! SM
  5. Good for you. We'll all have to tie up at the beer tent! SM
  6. Hope you know how to get there because last year there were no road signs! I had to ring a guy on the showground for directions. I wish I hadn't rang him ans saved the entry fee. I was not impressed at all. I should have stayed in the hotel bar!! Hic! SM
  7. Spaniels are retrievers are probably your best option for woodland or rough shooting. Be sure to buy from a recognised breeder and remember, paying a little extra for a proven working strain is not money wasted! SM
  8. This is good advice from Gary. They are slow to mature and need lots of encouragement. My friend here in Ireland has a few and does enjoy shooting over them. They are not a general purpose gundog but on moorland or our Irish snipe bogs they seem do to well enough. Just remember, make haste slowly with them. As for retrieving....should not be a problem but don't get them over-retrieving. They are primarily hunting and pointing dogs. If you have not yet bought one then I would suggest you look at the shooting you intend doing and choose the dog best suited for that job. For e
  9. Sounds good. I would like to come along to see the show. Remind me where it is again please? SM
  10. I'll tell you what I'll do. I will speak to the organisers for you. I suspect they will say it is located there to give the handlers easy access to their vehicles which is a fair enough comment. Rolling the ground is not a problem. I am sure the Council have rollers for that job and they are the main sponsors of the event. Sometimes its a case of not being able to please everyone. Compromise is good though. As for winning nothing..........sorry Lamper nothing I can do for you there!!!!! SM
  11. I have information here on two events in Ireland with good shows and competitions for terriers and long dogs. National Countrysports Fair at Moira Demesne, Co. Down (great event) 23 & 24 May Irish National Country Fair at Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath (new show) 18 & 19 July PM me if you need websites for them SM
  12. The Gilford Club are running the Moira event and will be taking a lead role at Ballinlough according to Justin Hill from the club. They choose the site for their events at Moira to ensure the handlers are close to their cars which is a wise move, especially if he weather is hot. Don't think it's quite a rutted field although about three years ago it was pretty wet and there were some ground problems generally. But, hell....... this is Ireland, we are used to the wet! SM
