  11. When you are lamping and you see a rabbit a bit too far to slip the dog, do you leave the beam on and walk to the rabbit? (Trying to keep it squatted) or do you switch the lamp off and walk to the rabbit? (Trying not to scare it). I have seen both techniques work, but I prefer to switch the lamp off and sneak up close enough to slip the dog. My idea is that I’m not scaring everything else around and I can get myself between the rabbit and the way I think it going to run or find shelter.
  12. thanks for your replys, yeah i have got to agree with you all, the long and lean seems to be able to use their whole body to their advantage. i think alot of power comes from a long back almost like a coiled spring.
  13. Now here’s a question when looking for the perfect running dog. Would you prefer long legs or a long body in the dog? I know you have got to, to a certain extent, have a mix of both but which attribute would you rather have in your running dog. Myself I prefer the longer bodied running dogs with the deep channel down the centre of the back. I think it gives greater turning capability and, dare I say it, even better turn of pace. I have seen a lot of dogs run and I do think the longer legged type lurcher do have the edge on stamina and strike capability and certainly faster on the str
  14. Thanks for all your posts, thats great to hear it seems to be about 4years old. I also can't imagine her getting any better but if she does she will definatly in the ranks of my best owned bitch of all time, she's already getting there at 2years old! It's just a joy to watch these running dogs do there work, i have done very little training with her she just seems to know what to do day and night and just when to turn, in fact i think shes training me half the time. lol. Cheers guys, SimonBilly.
  15. Just wondering at what age did your best dogs peak? I have got 3 dogs and my 2year old Saluki x Grayhound is really at the top of her game (so far) and definatly the best dog i've ever owned already and at just 2 years old!!! she is just awsome to watch run. I've just got my fingers and toes crossed that she gets no serious injuries. So what age did your best dog peak? and when did they slow down?

  22. Went out last night on the golf course lamping it was hammering it down with rain, wind nice and strong and quite a few rabbits sat out. I went out with my best dog Saluki x Grey, i'm trying to keep her fit for next season, she usually has a 50% strike rate (she only 12 month but coming on great) I had 8 good runs but the rabbits were rocket fueled!! i've never seen rabbits move quite like it. I know it's perfect ground for them on the golf course but it is for my dog too. it safe to say i came back empty handed I've notice this before on the same ground and simmilar condit
