About Me
Ihave always worked dogs,I ask alot of them in terms of work i;e A terrier must mark rabbits, rats, and work and bolt foxe's. People tell me you can't work terrier's to fox and rabbit but I'm telling you I can. I learn to read the dog, the dog will tell you what the quarry is. Rabbits I like a light mark I like the terrier or lurcher to just stand and point at the hole, with fox the terrier will go to ground and bolt the fox. Lurcher's must mark and be steady when ferreting Idon't like a lurcher running about on the bury. I see people writing about fox digging in hunting life [Well I don't like digging] Iexpect a terrier to bout the fox or kill and draw it .I work earth's I've worked for 50 years and still bout foxe's from them, I started working foxe's for their pelts in the old days so terrier's were bred to worry and bout the fox .I have dug but it's a last resort. hard dogs were frowned upon [by hard I mean a dog which goe's straight in and gets punnished for it trouble] because the fox pelt got damaged so you lost money. A fox dog to me is a dog which will worry until the fox bouts or will sparr kill and draw its fox. The damage is to the thoat area then not the mask so it keeps its value. A good friend of mine whippitmike works one of my terrier's ,she as bouted dozens of foxe's but you will be hard pressed to find a mark on her he can work her right through the season year in year out. I have tried to paint a picture of how I work terrier's no OFFENSE is intended to people who see terrier work in a diffent light. RESPECT FOR THE QUARRY.
