  1. I dropped on my feet the other day when a mate sold me his mk2 theoben for a couple of hundred quid it has a Bushnell 3-9x40 on it, i'm going to compare it to my AAs410 and then decide which one to sell, I have a Hawke night eye 3-9x50 on the AA but obviously scopes can soon be swapped over to my preference but which one would you keep, I just shoot rabbits so later on when the nights draw in some lamping will be on the cards (scope mounted Tesco torch conversion). I realise the larger objective lens of the Hawke should draw more light in low light conditions but the Bushnell is a better q

  5. Verminator it was a dry action
  6. Thought it was a fair question, didnt want to open a can of worms just wanted some objective opinnions as ive just been offered a rapid in 177 and am tempted but have no experiance with the smaller calibre, didnt know it had been done to death before, if i wanted bitchiness i'd use some of the other hunting forums out there. (The joys of the internet i suppose) Thanks to those who gave advice. Adam
  7. Ive always used 22's for rabbiting but am considering trying 177, what are your ideas on the pros and cons please on both calibres, cheers Adam
  8. A mate of mine is looking to get a cage trap or two for his garden full of rabbits. who supplies these and at what cost please. Are they easy to make yourself, has anyone got a design they can share.
  9. no mate it has not been gone into yet but when i collect it i'll find out and let you know (memory permitting  ) but i must say for the price of a service its not worth not having one done if you have any doubt about your own. I'll have mine done every year now.
  10. Thanks all, took it to Euroguns today, I used to use them a bit when they were at Mattersey, anyrate the chap was most helpful (Tom I think he was called but dont quote me) and i'll be picking my serviced gun up next week, I did well to leave without spending anymore than needed , if people hav'nt been it's well worth a trip but i suspect there maybe cheaper shops about as its a classy setup, having said that i cant grumble at the service cost for mine so check it out for yourself. Adam
  11. Thanks for all your suggestions, i,ve taken it to Euroguns at Doncaster today and it was chronoed at 9.2 so it didnt come home with me:( however im lucky to have a mate thats lent me theirs untill i get my own back . The gun must have been low on power when zeroed, but this still leaves me baffled as to the ones that i did drop first off still the problem is sorted now thats the important thing. Thanks again everyone. Adam
  12. The nearest airgun shop to me is Mooredges airguns at Thorne, however i dont know if he does chrono testing until i can give him a bell in the morning, so incase he cant do it can anyone reccomend a shop in my area (Selby\Goole). It would be a big help as i would ideally like to go in the morning. Cheers Adam
  13. This would perhaps explain still getting the loud crack but still running off to me , I zeroed it a couple or three days ago though (pellet on pellet at 30 yards) and have been happily dropping rabbits since until today, some thing is definatley wrong though as i said these are the sort of shots that i take regually with the desired effect:( ,so something has changed rapidly), could a seal have given perhaps ( i know nothing about the workings of these things, just got a rough idea where to point em ) Cheers Adam
  14. I've been out rabbiting tonight and had a couple or so shots that ive been totally confident on, shooting prone on a bipod, head shots 25-30 yards the gun is zeroed etc theres been the usual loud crack on connection, the rabbits have flipped then gone down, then a few seconds later jumped up and made off. These are the sort of shots that usually leave them where they drop, i can only assume that my AA S410 for some reason has lost power as im on familiar ground using AA field as usual, could there be another explanation? Needless to say the guns next outing is to be chronoed tommorow before

    FAC ?

I do a fair bit of rabbiting with my AirArms S410 22 carbine, and am considering going FAC but dont really know anything about their abilitys. What sort of ranges are they effective to (please keep it realistic, I PERSONALLY consider 30 yds enough for 12 ft lbs), how is accuracy affected, how is trajectory affected how is sound affected etc. What ft lbs should i be looking at and perhaps most importantly what are the negatives? It seems all forces seem to have their own criteria but what is an air FAC like to obtain ( I have several smaller permisions where i doubt permission for a rimfire
  16. Cheers for your replys, this is exactly the information and type of debate i am looking for, i am in the process of trying to obtain enough permission to be eligable for a FAC. I am doing ok at getting smallholdings and livery yards but larger areas are a struggle, at the present moment i just shoot an air rifle (AA S410) and am a bit frustrated at the short ranges i am restricted to (i dont really take shots over 30 yds as i PERSONALLY think thats about the limit for 12 ft lbs ). I am also tempted to look into an FAC air rifle as my struggle for suitable ground continues ( I am going to star
  17. Thanks again for all your replys, as you quite rightly stated SS i have more guestions . there seems to be plenty in favour of the .22LR and i have used one before with results i was happy with, but i still have little understanding of their limits, please can you tell me what range they would be suitable for on rabbits and the occasional fox as you put it as i would not be targeting foxes specifically, also the .17 HMR seems to have a ever increasing following and many seem to be leaving the .22lr in the cabinet in favour of them why is this, answers to the same questions would be helpful.
  18. Its the silencer thats causing my mates AA S410 to spray pellets, when i took it off it was putting pellets in the same hole time after time at 30 yds when it went back on and same old story 2ft plus out. Whats happend and can it be mended or is the silencer for the scrapheap, by the way i belive its an AA silencer. Thanks for all your help Adam

  20. Thanks SS, I've already read that but was looking for something a little more detailed on the calibre's front,ie ranges trajectory etc what calibre (if there is one) is suitable for rabbit mainly (without destroying them) but still capable of the odd fox sensibly and over what ranges? Also different rounds for both or is there a round suitable for both. Novice questions from a novice person Thanks for your reply. Adam
  21. I'm considering looking into applying for my FAC mostly for rabbits but maybe the odd fox too but understand little to nothing about calibers, im under the impression a.17HMR or .22 lr may be the tool for the job but may be well off the mark, then ranges ? im lost can anyone point me in the right direction of a site or link with a good explanation of uses please. Also what sort of acreage would i require, Thanks
  22. I was at a friends livery yard the other day and they asked me to show them how to zero their 22 AA S410 in, its been that long since they used it they've forgottern,(yes i know ) so i got on with it, it was a bus ride out and i dont recon it's been done since last time i did it,(i was putting pellet after pellet in the same hole at 30 yds) however it seemed to be getting there then just started throwing pellets just as far out in the other direction, its the horizontal where the problem is, the scope is a Hawke nighteye 3-9 x 50 on decent quality mounts (cant remember the make) its fitted w
  23. Pleased to know it stood out well, lets hope it stood out to people with high maintainance dogs
  24. I spent most of the bank holiday weekend at the selby game fair ( the missus is a dog groomer and wanted to get her van seen by all those doggy people ) where i met lorelei0922 in the ferret tent and as im playing with the idea of getting a ferret or two again had quite a long chat with her for some pointers on keeping ferrets as my memory does not go back the twentysomething years since my last ones and must say she could not of been more helpful so i'd just like to say thanks again and to her husband too, sorry i did'nt get your name but i hope you both had a safe trip back home.
