Well just to put this into perspective just to have a pig killed is £27,then you have the butchering costs. If reared correctly without cutting corners 1 pig aged 4 months old to killing at 6 months ish will eat 40lb of food in 10 days at £8 per bag go figure, there is also straw, shavings my time and diesel cost to include..All my piglets have add lib corn from a week old,so its a long expensive 6 months. My pigs are rare breed and live outside to root and to a degree free rang,Not your intensive reared tasteless crap.Any other pig breeders want to give there input to explain there rearing costs.

  6. Im taking some pigs for slaughter on mon the 16th,and have got 1 spare pig left.If anyone on here is interested in having a half pm me the pork will come packed labled and ready to put in your freezer cost will be £4-50 per kg and each half will weigh about 25kg.

The pork will be ready for collection from Burton on Trent on fri the 20th at about 5pm,treat yourself to some proper pork and you will not want to eat supermarket cardboard again. This will be backed up by a money back guarantee if you are not genuinely happy with the pork you get your money back.A member off here had half a pig off me in december and said it was the best pork he had ever had,and has ordered another half this time.

  7. Orders are being taken for traditional out door reared pork.

Half or full pigs available cut to individual requirments

packed, labled, and ready for the freezer. Each pig should weigh roughly 50-60kg

The pigs are saddleback breed and this should make for good eating with fantastic crackling.

Pork will be ready for picking up on friday/sat 9th/10th december.

£120 per half pig with a £50 deposit required with the balance paid on collection.

Located in Burton on Trent,5 pigs left out of 9 being slaughtered.

  8. Even shanes minted been going halves with him, lol. All you can do is take things as they come mate, things are on the up here government has realised the brewery trade is in need of help and have decided to scrap levy on beer.Lager is now 76p a pint

  9. Im no expert but you will be pushing to get much now,a few easy and quick veg could be spuds, these take around 12 weeks but watch out for slugs.Leeks, cauli, cabbage, carrots, peas, runner beans, french beans, salad crops.Summer cropping purple sprouting brocoli, broad beans come october/nov.Have a mouch round local nurseries and get some established plant this will save you some time, good luck and only grow what you like to eat.

  10. Thanks for that Doug, they are in a national brood box.I have a local to me beek that had a look about 1 month ago and put another 3 frames on,i think most of the original frames where half to 3/4 drawn out with a few being almost full.I didnt want to ask my local beek to mentor me as he was shut down with disease last year and i knew he would be flat out getting started again, plus he is mentoring another person. With luck a super will be going on on friday, once again thanks for your advice.Paul

  11. Bee keepers near burton on trent, advice needed please, last year i managed to save a small honey bee cast from being nuked, but was informed by a local beek that the cast might not survive the winter because it was so small.Well it did survive after being nursed with glucose and fondant, now im at the stage of do i need to put a super on.I didnt get a smoker,so i cant go prying in the brood box.If a local to B-O-T would come have a look and advise i would be realy grateful.I will gladly cover your traveling cost and offer a drink. Please help if you can because i dont want to lose these bee`s due to a swarm.

  12. Hi penny, thanks for your approval, this meat has been in the pipeline for some time but i got my arse into gear today and bought half a beast, just for my dogs and a few people off hear that have had other dog meat off me in the past.Well looking at the meat before i run it through the mincer i can honestly say i was almost tempted to try it myself,so lean, and it cut like fillet steak.Im sure a journey midlands bound would be well worth it for you, atb.Paul

  13. Would any members be interested in horse meat for your dogs.NO injections are used to destroy these animals, comes minced at 50p per pound,or you can have it in slabs and cut to suit at 35p per pound.Might not be the cheapest meat you can get but its all meat,no fat,no bones or crap.pm me if interested.

EDITED to add near Burton on Trent/Derby

  14. Well the way i started mine was by setting up with minimal amount of gear, piece of net,2 hide poles, and 6 decoys. and my moleing T bar,put a jacket on the dog let her run about whilst i set up making sure she gets a bit of heat generated.I took the 410 and 6 carts.Once i had the hide up and the decoys out i pushed the T bar in the ground just dogs lead away from myself then i put her on the lead and slipped it over the T bar, keeping her in a safe position but close enough to reasure her we would be having fun.Pigeons came in i took a shot dropped the pigeon fussed the dog then took her off the lead and showed her the pigeon, she was realy fired up now.Let her run about for a few mins then lead back on and secured to the T bar, shot the remaining 5 carts repeating the above methods then packed up.Next time i done the same procedure, but gave her 1 retrieve and ended on a high.3Rd time i took her i left the T bar in the landrover, and had her on the lead but held it under my knee when i shot at a pigeon i blew the sit whistle, then we both went out and i picked up the dead bird,on the last shot i sent her out for the retrieve. She now sits in the hide, still on the lead but free to run if she wanted to but she dosent. She just pokes her nose under the net looking for pigeons. The reason i put a jacket on her, i didnt want to sicken her by getting cold.I only shot 6 carts to keep it quick and fun, just lay a few simple foundations and build it up.Hope this helps.
