  1. HEY SKIP ! i spent 10 years in your neck of the woods , dont know what state you are in though, i would think that we use mainly flushing or retrieving dogs, over here, and the pointers are the minority, then of course we have HPRs whitch will do everything? its a personal thing, but i like the idea of shooter, handler, and dog, all there together bit like stalking birds, keep your powder dry, all the best from scotland.
  2. TOTALY, agree with this advice, but if i called my nick every tme i went out they"d tell me to bugger off. still would"nt stop the NOSIES? when i was a pro stalker we had a good relationship with hill walkers nowdays they just tell you to p***0ff in answer to john galway, i know what it used to be like over there, spent 3 years waterford, 2 years mayo, the best 5 years of my life, if my wife of 33 years hadn"t contracted cancer i would have gone straight back to ireland. when i was there i achieved the distinction of being FIT FOR ANY THING? by the lads. if somebody thinks what
  3. HERE WE GO AGAIN, was out this morn up the hill, after a few rabbits, left the jeep, started up the woodside, i stopped and spied, a hillwalker. watched him come all the way over to my jeep, and you"ve guessed it he had a good nosy then carried on walking. MY point is before this right to roam, stuff he probably wouldn't have been on private land in the first place. I say this because i know of a keeper who left his jeep 300 yds from a release pen offroad, and 3 miles from a main road, along comes mr wooly hat, has a gander in the LOCKED JEEP and reported to police he could see a wepon

Its, the old can of worms about this or that calibre, MY BOOK should be out in the near future. i used to be more interested in what kind of knife you had?, because when they all fell down, THATS WHEN THE WORK STARTED ALL THE BEST FROM BONNY c ya

  9. [quote name='Local' date='Oct 9 2008, 12:00 PM' post='702728 GOOD ADVICE from LOCAL i agree with him , BUT these are only our OPINIONS THE 243 will put down enything with four legs if you put it in the right place. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR BULLET PLACMENT? i"ve shot, and used the biggest, hand held rifles in the world, but its no good if you shoot things in the ASS JUST A WEE CORECTION WALTER DALRIMPLE MAITLAND BELL, lived and stalked quite near where we lived, my father remembered him, he shot with the 220 SWIFT and remarked, that it put the DEER down as though electrocuted?.
  10. hellow there young dude AH the joys of training a SPRING WITH FOUR LEGS, as you can see not a lot of help offered ? it's because there"s no easy answer I have a young Cocker at the moment But have owned 14 springers , and a few other breeds. you could try the rabbit pen, but you said he was chaseing everything that got up?, you could try him with chickens, street pecking pigeons birds in the garden, anything you can do to stop him running in,USE a long lead, but he probably wont break on the lead,if you can get someone to go with you, so you can concentrate on the dog. my fath
  11. WHAT A GREAT POST I"V shot brno"s for years, sorry CZs have to keep up these days. they are super wee rifles, but lets face it the triggers are CRAP ? after buying the rifle and scope we want, NOT ENOUGH OF US THINK OF THE TRIGGER PULL. REMEMBER ITS THE LAST THING YOU DO. onnce again well done c, ya
  12. hi there sounds like you have a great wee set up . just thought i"d throw in a bit of info, in the words of ELMER KEITH and COLONEL HASKINS, find out what it likes to eat, and FEED IT THAT. go get em.
  13. hi there,a real puzzle you"ve got . not going to be very positive? but if you have tried all the suggestons already put forward. it looks like its time for that big hacksaw in the sky. in my other life i was a chief rifle regulator for a famous rifle makers. during that time i came up with this problem a few times, on older rifles, turned out they were basically shot out. people tend to forget just how many rounds you can burn in a 22 they dont last forever if you want to see some of the stuff i used to do try clicking RECOIL on YOUTUBE
  14. some realy good advice posted and allroundhunter makes a fair discription of some low gound keepering. yea' i know everybody thinks its like EMERDALE ,MONARCH OF THE GLEN. etc swaning around in your plusfours going to the pub, stuff like that. when i started i was a kennelboy, we had 50 dogs, looking over the fence on my first morning i seen the headkeeper mucking out just like me. it ment there was no job he would"nt or could not do. in 40 years i must have seen at least 30 trainees , ithink 6 made it. not for everybody dont think the job is only for countryboys either. i
  15. bit, of a srangeyi the other night took the 17 out to do some rabbits up the hill. got out the jeep, first thing that happend was a lady went running past with two terriers? well thats this part of the hill cleared. so went higher up shot 7 rabbits came back down in a semi c and looked down at my jeep. 10yds in front a dog fox was standing? while at the back of the jeep was a roebuck!? a quick liedown and one between the lugs dropped charlie. the buck never moved? sat and watced him for a while eventually he went off. all ican think of is the buck was checking the tyres,
  16. just got back from the hill, been out early training the wee cocker, always take my grandson with me sat, sunday mornings total cracking morning in the borders. dead lucky ,have 1000 acres behind my house do a lot of lamping here but what i realy like is what we used to call gully busting. basically ambushing, ihave a vallyey that runs between two woods. i have measured just about every conceivable shot right out to 600yds I get foxes travelling from one wood to the other. thers no keepers on two of these estates killed 60 last year. YOU MIGHT COME INTO MY VALLEY BUT YOU'LL
