  1.

Got stung by one last year, put me in hospital.

Bloody hell you are joking? Are you allergic or are they really that bad?

Absolutely not joking. I'm not allergic but don't do too well with stings after getting 13 wasp stings a few years ago. Never had pain like it and by the time I got to A & E my blood pressure was all over the place and chest tightening up.

  2. Firstly would I be right in saying that you are removing this stuff as part of your job, ie landscaping/gardening? If that is the case then down here you would have to have an upper tier waste carriers licence from the environment agency andthe rule is that you cannot take the waste back to your premises and burn it. What is ridiculous imo is that if you were to do say 10 jobs in a street you would be allowed to have a fire on each job but would not be able to stick the rubbish in your van/trailer to take it away and burn it. Obviously rules north of the border could be totally different.

We don't kill an animal in the hole. We catch the quarry without wound it. So here, we are using special tongs : the largest for the body, the little one for paws. They are made to be safe.
At the end we can release the badger or dispatch it outside the terrier.

Blaise, what is the long pipe used for? Hope you have a good season.

The long pipe is our phone.
During the hunt, we hear the dog barking with. This pipe is introduced in the hole. It's used to speak at the dog too.
We use it in two other ways.
When you need to collapse near the dog (sand for example), first you introduce the pipe, so your dog has some air.
Last way, at the end, when the dog is attached at the leash and badger stayed at the end of the tunnel. We tickle the badger with the pipe. Usually, badger goes out (50% success).

Thanks for that Blaise, I had thought about getting air into a tube but not the other uses.

  5. Now that is a shame. Without looking wasnt he related to Ian Fleming. A fine actor that played his signature role so well he was typecast but was great as Saramanga and superb in the LOTR films.

Keen recording artist too and made many albums and was guest on many more, every musical genra too, classical to thrash metal and everything inbetween.

I hope the media are gracious enough to show the enormity of his lifes work.

Don't kn ow about him being related to Ian Fleming but I have heard a story that there was a guy who hunted with the tedworth in wiltshire called Scaramanga and that's where Ian Fleming got the name.

Get your self a hap sack sprayer , by 20 litters of Gallup and go round the doors spraying weeds for a start

Illegal unless you have appropriate spraying tickets.

Sighthound i think you only need the tickets if you have employees?? am not 100% on this but its what ive been told by a fella.I dont bother with weeds at all so am not assed lol

Definitely wrong. If you are spraying commercially (ie being paid) you need a ticket or if born before Dec 1964 grandfather rights but that is been done away with from October this year so everybody will need a ticket.

    What about domestic spraying?

Like a say i dont touch weeds anyway so im not bothered just good to know cheers

The key point is whether or not you get paid. It doesn't matter if it's a factory grounds, amenity land, dwellings or whatever else, if you get paid you need the ticket. If you're spraying on your own property so for your own benefit and not getting paid you don't need a ticket but you will or should not be able to purchase professional products.

  7. Do it but do it right. As people have said, waste carriers license, upto £5000 fine if caught without, spraying certificates, public liability insurance. These things will immediately set you apart from the fly by night cowboys and will get you a better client base. Facebook can be good but you will get loads of people wanting cheap. Get yourself professional tools, the £100.00 mower is all well and good for a once a week outing but if its doing 20-30 or maybe more hours per week it will not last, also you will be able to work quicker with the better quality tools. My approach is to work WITH people and it seems to work. Good luck.
