  1. thanks guys, I read somewhere on here that it is ok to leave the jills together when they have kits but the male must be removed , is this the case or am i just best removing the pair I wish to breed. Not that I do plan to breed but if I ever do I just want to be properly prepared. Also is it a good idea to keep a vesectimised hob on hand to bring the other jills off heat or just get the jills needled. I have no shortage of space as I also have another 108sq feet of averies divided into 3 6x6 foot walkins which could easily be converted.
  2. thanks for the advice guys, There is an article in working terriers on this site written by a bloke who uses staffies on foxes, do they readilly do the job or are his just an exception? Perhaps running one with my whippet may help him out in the dispatching department? Victor, do you run other dogs with your whippet or just the one dog? Distubed, are foxes near impossible to catch in the thick, should I just stick to the more open country for foxes?
  3. Hi guys, I have built a 6x6x6 foot court in which I want to keep 3 jills and 1 hob, the bloke i will be getting the ferrets of just keeps his in rabbit hutches so he is no good for advise for me, and I am not sure weather I sould build 4 seperate hutches and lock them up seperatley at night or just build 4 sleeping quarters like parrot boxes. Also, when it comes to the breeding season will they all need to be seperated or just the hob and jill I plan to breed from. Any advise would be much appreciated.
  4. The dogs used for roos and the stags that i have seen are generaly grey cross deerhound or along those lines. I am trying to keep smaller dogs now as they are easier for my wife to mannage and my daughter loves to play with them.
  5. Thanks for clearing that up for me jordan,. In which case I went for a ''mooch'' today with my new whippet pup. Saw afew bunnies but he is only 4 months old so i don't expect anything yet, he got excited and wanted to get them but i did'nt push him he still has alot of growing to do before i let him have a good chase.
  6. This will may be a stupid question to you guys but what is mooching, is this another term for coursing, or ferreting or is it something different I have never heard the term used here in oz
  7. woops, as i said I am only new and the whippet is for the rabbits I just was'nt sure how they or thier crosses would go on foxes but i geuss you answered my question there. So what you're saying is the larger lurchers such as the bully/greyhound or collie/greyhound would do better than the smaller dogs like a staffy/whippet or kelpie/whippet on foxes. Taking into consideration that, as mentioned, I hunt in some fairly thick areas.
  8. Hi all, I am new to coursing and the use of lurchers etc but i have hunted pigs with dogs for some time. As pigs are so far from where i live and rabbits and foxes flood the local farms I have made the change to coursing and ferreting.I have a pure whippet i will use on bunnies, but I am interested in chasing foxes. I live in australia were it is still legal so i just want some advice as to choice of dog/dog's. The areas I hunt range from open hilly country to thicker scrub and bush country. Will a team of 2 or 3 pure whippets work for foxes aswell as rabbits. Or should I cross my
