  1. Great photos mate. If shes anything like her dams dam she will be perfect for the racing. I will try mine this summer at the shows.

They have turned out to be a good litter thats for sure. I have just rehomed nipper so hes gone to some lads from kent that go coursing in france.

Sometimes you're better off PTS pal........

Oh hopefully you get it sorted then. I have just spoke to gps4us n they said there is a fault with the unlocking software for the Astro 430 n hopefully they will have it sorted within the next few days. I'm undecided wether to get the 320 or 430.

    320 are very good IMO.

Thanks That's good to hear. Have you used the 430 at all? There is a £140 price difference, so just tryin to weigh up the extra benefits.

I havent pal sorry. But I will say the 320 hasn't let me down (touchwood) and it's been used alot lol

  4. To find out what the best daytime dog is for a particular quarry, just have a look at what the lads are using that are flat out at it......there's a reason why they have a certain type of dog, it's because they are keen and won't settle for anything less than a dog that is perfect for what they want. Lads that are doing a 600 mile round trip wouldn't be wasting their time with a dog that isn't much good..... DON'T confuse daytime and nighttime...different kettles of fish......Only MHO.

Quick question, would you rather slip your dog on a Red Stag or a male Wild Boar??????

200lb big nasty old boar , will sort any dog out, the dog would have to go for nose or ear , or other wise , it fooked if tried to grab any where else , they got short legs and tough bloody hide , they wreak a dog . even a 100 lb boar as very strong animal , so as real test of guts etc , a wild boar deff , but you have bring dogs up on them , in the 1st place .

Bigger than that...the big sows weigh 200lb....boars can be almost double that..... :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

Anyone interested in this subject may enjoy A Most Perfect Creature of Heaven by Kenneth Cassels. There is a good account in the book of a Deerhound successfully taking a stag single handed. A 30 1/2 " 85 1b bitch. Whether it is true or not I have no idea. Worth taking a look at the for the drawings if nothing else. Personally I believe it.

If you look on the vast majority of drawings you will see the dogs are doubled up at the least.

In Lea McNallys book Highland Year there is a photo of a stag being taken by two deerhounds. Late 60's or early 70's book but I think the photo was a lot earlier. Having said that were deerhounds also used for bringing down wounded deer for stalkers?

I wouldnt be surprised if in the future someone brings a book out with a hell of a lot of pics of dogs taking red stags... pre ban etc......

I must be the only one that thought it was boring as feck then

    In what way,may I ask??

He's just a hater .....Probably hasn't even seen it...... cos if he had there's no way it could be called boring.... i reckon its the best value dvd that there's been on such a subject. I've loads planned for the next........had great feedback to be honest, which is nice. But i am always open to constructive critisism or ways i can make the next one better for the viewer.....

I have a couple of MkIV traps with "Keepa" stamped on them...

All counterfeits are illegal to use under the Pests Act 1954. They have not been approved under Spring Traps Approval Order (2012) and anyone using a non-approved trap can be prosecuted.

Unless they are classed as clones.......then they are perfectly legal...

Here is the link to the "Approved List", and if they are not on that list, then they are illegal....

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/13/pdfs/uksi_20120013_en.pdf

This is where the problem is.

If you read the bottom of the pdf

(Article 2 specifies approved traps, namely those listed in Column 1 of the Schedule and others which are equivalent in all relevant respects to those so listed.)

    Or http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/13/article/2/made

you will find similar wording (any spring trap which is equivalent in all relevant respects to a spring trap of a type and make specified in any entry in Column 1 of the Schedule)

Clone traps are supposed to be of equal power, dimensions and quality, but we all know they are normally cheap chink shite.

You are right; they are not equivalent. They are not made under licence and hence do not have to conform to the patented Fenn design.

I tested a clone ( copy/counterfeit whatever you want to call it) and it was NOT equal in power or quality. It was only dimensionably similar but its springs had much less tension that the genuine Fenn. Also the clone didn't have the " brass on brass" in the trigger mechanism- hence less sensitive and slower. Its performance was substandard - so much so that several targett species ( squirrels) got out of the trap.

So what you tested was not a clone....it was an underpowered illegal trap. A clone is near identical in killing power as well as other criteria....IMO.

Wrong..........a trap can be a clone and perfectly legal.
