  1. It does sound like a mycoplasma (M.gallisepticum, M. synovia, and M. meleagridis are examples) related infection; although in outdoor reared birds these are less common. These can be quite contagious so might be worth getting vet to swab and confirm or deny. There arent many veterinary products registered specifially for pheasants so you may have to have something prescribed under the cascade system. Tylan Soluble (tylosin) is widely used for mycoplasma infections is poultry
  2. Top bloke, did a trade on some MK 4 Fenn traps and was as straight and honest as they come

  3. Hi Mate, If you want a good basic intro then the following technical advice note from DEFRA on rabbit cage trapping is not a bad place to start: http://www.defra.gov.uk/rds/publications/t...ical/TAN_17.pdf Obviosuly not as good as learning from an old hand but there we go..... Have a look an then come back with any questions- there are some very experienced trappers on here....
  4. If you are thinking of strychnine then think again.......use banned a good few years ago. I suggest you revert to the tried and tested method of trapping. You can legally gas mole in their runs via the use of aluminium phosphide but you will specifically need training in the use of this product for various reasons, namely yours and other peoples safety and also non-target species. Hope this helps
  5. Thats some impressive trapping, good stuff Where are you ordering your 120-2's from- direct from manufacturer or retailer?? I didnt think you could order direct from Oneida Victor.?? How are you finding the Solway? Fenlander
  6. Hi Gents, I'll add my opinion here- we have to be careful that we dont get crossed wires. The original post was written so as to imply that the exhaust fumes would be used to kill the moles i.e poison them by CO, indeed if you started putting exhaust fumes down mole runs they aint going to bolt. Exhaust fumes, used in this instance, are being used as a posion and thus have to be registered as so. Carbon monoxide is not registered for the killing of moles see here for some advice on legal methods http://www.defra.gov.uk/rds/publications/t...ical/tan_03.pdf The difference between this an
  7. Hmmmm...this is an interesting area. I have safely assumed you are talking about whether you may be able to take legal quarry with a either bow or catty. Now in Part I of the Act the use of "any bow or crossbow" to kill or take any wild bird is prohibited and an offence. No direct mention of catty. For other legal wild animal quarry species the bow or crossbow dose not appear to be prohibited, nor dose the catty. These are my interpretations only. If in doubt I would contact the appropriate Govt body, even BASC technical Dept might be of use Like I said my interpretations
  8. Hi Mate, Cant help with 1950's bit (what piece of legislation exactly?? the protection of birds acts?) but the 1981 act can be found here as a starter for ten http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-3614#download , if you scroll down its got all the sections as pdf's. This is the complete act at the time it got Royal Assent I though the 1981 act consolidated all the previous legislation but I may be wrong...... One word of warning- the Act is ever evolving and is updated by other legislation (i.e definition of protected species for eg.)- the website link explains this bit also. Hope thi
