    Yes or magnum bodygrips as there know as here!! As much as i like using my magnums,, this lake or any waterway i would prefer to keep them in the shed Too much risk of catching the Otter or the Water vole which are both protected species and what most of my mink trapping is done to protect and encourage both of them. There is a small ditch from the lake which if any mink are in the area would act as a highway to them so might set a magnum on that spot as in know the voles are not present there,, only rats!!     Great article G.W. I do a very similar thing but I use 120 body traps on a 2 X 4 placed on it's side so the path to the grain is narrow. I found that if there is ANY chance for the squirrel to go over or around the trap , it will so I placed wire mesh and tree branches above and to the sides and that increased my catch ratio very well. I also tie fishing line between the triggers. My pan system would work well here as well I believe. Pics below.

    Here is a pic of what we call hardware cloth. It is a woven wire that is welded and galvanized. This is 1/4" mesh. as far as the shingle goes, I rivet it on so it stays put and will last a while. The shingles cut outs are made of asphalt roofing shingles that are 12" by 36" long and have aggrigate on them and that looks like soil (earthtone colors)but also when some dirt is added to the pan , it doesn't blow away.     My first pans were made out of 1/4" hardware cloth and were wired onto the triggers. When the trap fired , the pan would end up right in the animals face and they would start chewing on it and sometimes destroy it after one catch. In theory is that they should all get caught right behind the ears and lights out but in reality , they get caught all sorts of ways , especially raccoons that like to reach into the holes and cubbies.     Stealing from Americans ? now there's a novel idea - LOL. Here is the way I set up my body grips with a pan and a lumber tie plate, rivits & lumber banding material. I now attatch asphalt shingles the same size as the metal plat and rivited on in all 4 corners. The pan comes off every time the trap snaps and therefore the animal does not destroy it. It is the best thing I did to the body grippers and very rarely miss a visitor. Picked up a big black mink this morning in a snow run with a BG with this pan set up. Deadly on otters & fishers.     'CAcountry_boy' , Hello , I used to trap in CA back in 84 when it was still legal to use footholds and cats were big $$. We trapped not far from L.A. and caught cats right behind McDonald's. Do'es were the days. Do you do any trapping there ?

    Thanks guys , I have already spent considerable time reading the brilliance of Snareman (Mr. Waters) . He really gets the wheels turning to say the least. I love catching critters when I can but don't go at it like I once did. I do a fair bit of bowhunting from Sept. to January and that takes most of my free time during that stretch. Looking forward to visiting often and sharing what little I think I know.

    I sent these q's to Woodga and snareman but thought i would also ask here. What size of eyelets are used on the snares and what gauge wire for the 6 strand snares you make yourself ? Thanks.

    Just wanted to introduce myself , I am a trapper from Wisconsin and purchased a few videos on snaring from a guy in the UK and had some questions about them. I searched for a guy named Woodga and came up here so that is where it stands as I need to talk with him. looking forward to looking over the site and participating where I can. Ace
