  1. Here's one from someone who has bought every fly tying material known to man over the last 25 years. If there's one thing which I wished I'd bought on the first day of my fly-tying career it's a good quality genetic grizzle cock cape. The buggers cost upwards of £50 but add a few dyes to vary the colours and you'll have hackles to tie most flies. Please pass this on to your father in law!!! He'll thank you in years to come. Good place to get one is here Lakeland flytying Hope I've been of some help! Gerry

    new boots

Some newbie input here - hope no-one minds! Had a pair of muckboots for a couple of years now and I have mixed feelings about them. True they are warm but that neoprene is a bitch in anything other than cold weather and I've been known to take them off to reveal soaked legs in the pattern of where the neoprene was. Maybe I'm just a sweaty git though . Plus I got them wet whilst using them for pike fishing once and the sole area was a bitch to dry again - so much so that now they smell worse than a pig's arse. Not what you want for stalking up on the bunnies or anything else for tha
  3. As far as I know the legal season for brown trout extends from 15th March to 15th October. That's not to say that there can't be local variations between one venue and another. For instance the season on the Spey finishes on 30th September whereas a venue a few miles away finishes the first week in October. Best to ask first I think! Gerry
