Or we could sit back, do nothing and let a warlord run through Europe, that's the British way, I'm glad we kept out of WW2 as well.
Do you think that spending 0.5% of our GNI on foreign aid saw the end to your mates business mate? Nothing to do with the fact that most people would prefer to buy their meat from a much cheaper supermarket?
I agree, but you can't have your cake and then eat it. We can't be global players and then refuse that model. You want more isolationism, a Little Britain, nothing wrong with that.
Again, you are just raising silly examples mate and overlooking the main points. Corruption is everywhere, this type of spending should rightly be scrutinized.
And you are naive enough to believe that nobody was getting any backhanders out of it mate? Again, hate the player, not the game. If a government is corrupt, do you think they would stop robbing us blind if we stopped all foreign aid? Lol
You're just posting sensational examples and are missing out on the fact that it can and does offer economical, political and strategic long term potentials.
I didn't know you was that naive mate. Foreign aid isn't just a charity that gives away money with nothing in return, it is also used as a business model, a model used the world over.
Even more naive, foreign aid isn't just charity. You're failing to understand the wider implications mate, I'm sure if you read in to it you would understand more.
I was quoting % of gross national income, my mistake.
But per capita we are behind Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Luxembourg, & Denmark.
Quoted from the source you've just posted mate, Wikipedia.
A fair argument, but I think you're being a little naive. Now I'm not ignorant to suggest that no corruption is involved, but if you think the boat crossings are bad now, imagine how much worse they could potentially be if everyone stopped paying foreign aid. I know our government is useless, but I can't see them blindly throwing money away without assurances that it's being used correctly.
I can't believe people are actually claiming taxation is a terrible idea. How about a system where we pay no income tax but are taxed to the hilt for certain goods, goods like cigarettes, sweets, etc? At least that way people have a choice, if they want to be a burden on the NHS then go ahead, they can pay for it.
Likely so, but this will have been going on from the start mate, it isn't nothing new. But, it flourished at one point and you don't have to go that far back to remember that.
