  1. It's called criminal damage, and should be reported to the police straight away. The only legitimate reason to shoot a dog is if it is in the act of worrying livestock, and even then, it can only be used as a last resort. Get it reported, and don't take any direct action. Interesting article about it in this months NGO magazine, which I'm sure has got a few keepers thinking about it.
  2. So you think I'm the only pro-pester on here? As for moles, yes, they do make up a significant part of my business income. I don't think I've ever claimed that I make a living from mole trapping alone, but without it, I would struggle. I do, however, know that some people have made a good living from doing nothing but moles (Jeff Nichols for one), so I'm not sure why you think that there is a secret that no-one else knows? I'm sure you would love to hear what I know; but as others have pointed out, you are a complete COCK, and as such, you don't deserve any help from me.
  3. £10 per hole? Are you sure??? I'm not sure about mole trapping being a 'sport'. To some of us, it's a mortgage, council tax, water rates, electricity, and food on the table.
  4. A .410 shotgun is also very effective, and allows the user a slightly larger margin for error, and safer due to the decreased risk of ricochet. I think Stubby uses a Hushpower .410 to dispatch his foxes. The other advantage of the .410 is that you only need a SGC.
  5. John This type of large contract requires quite a bit of careful thought. First task is to work out your operating costs. Those should include the obvious stuff like insurance, but should also be based on what it would cost you to employ someone else to do the job; you never know what is waiting just around the corner, like sickness or something. Once you have your operating costs, you should be able to work out a price to do the job depending on what the client requires. Look at what they are asking for, and don't be afraid to offer something different if you think it's needed.
  6. Most Technicians earn 18-22k depending on how hard they are prepared to work. It's a well known fact that pest control is no way of making money, but can be a very satisfying vocation. Basic salaries are 15-18k, with overtime, bonuses, and sales commission, it's possible to earn quite a bit more. If you've 'owt about you, there is also now a clear career progression and earnings can be significant if you are prepared to climb the greasy pole. Starting out on your own on the other hand is very difficult, and unlikely to be a success. Many try, and most fail. Have a read of the
  7. Most pest controllers work from home, but do have to travel as part of the job (100 miles a day is about average). Have you approached any national companies? A decent (hand written to show that you are literate) letter with a CV works wonders. I used to get 20-30 each week, and most were filed in the bin, but anything half decent was kept in case of a vacancy. Don't think that doing your RSPH level 2 will make you a pest controller - it won't. What the qualification does is to give you evidence that you have a basic knowledge that you can then build on in the field. Also keep your
  8. Currently running at 45% in favour of culling, 41% against. Please vote ASAP if you haven't already!
  9. The contractor has a legal duty to ensure that any baits laid are not accessible to non-target species. Laying open baits in trays in areas accessible by others, or where contamination is possible is a serious offence. With the best will in the world, not all contractors are capable of clearing up major infestations without the full co-operation of the occupier. I would be reluctant to suggest that they are failing to control the rats without more information. If you want to PM me more details, I may be able to have a quiet word with the contractor (if they are known to me) and help
  10. 70% against culling......... surely we can do better that that!
  11. Now 70% against culling........
  12. Firstly, are they real Fenns or chinky rubbish? If they are copies, you will have a job to get any real performance out of them and they will fall apart in no time. If in doubt, post a picture and I'm sure we will be able to tell. OK, presuming they are the 'real deal', there are two things to do to them. You can raise the trigger plate by shortening the trigger a little bit at a time, (some people just bend the plate upwards). That makes the plate sit a little higher; and the trap is then less likely to be jumped over. The other thing to try is a little graphite pencil in the notc
  13. We are loosing this one badly - and to add insult to injury, Angus McNutter is now posting loads of propaganda. The no vote has increased by 60 odd in the last 24 hours, the yes by only 100. We need more votes, and fast. Please publicise this wherever you can (facebook?).
  14. I've already posted this in the general talk section, but I guess that some folks don't read that part of the forum, so as we are loosing this one so badly, I thought it would be worth putting it here as well:

  17. We seem to be losing this one badly.... Just to clarify, the poll asks if the cull is justified. If you agree, vote yes. I've just voted again (I know, but all's fair in war) by using internet explorer after I originally voted on firefox. Just an idea........
  18. Has anyone managed to post this anywhere else? We need to win this one; it's the type of thing quoted ("in a recent poll"). If members here could post the link on other sites and PM their pals it would be good. We need votes, and as quickly as possible!
  19. I'm not sure if this will work, but there is the option to embed the poll onto any website: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="http://s3.polldaddy.com/p/2634544"></script> Please vote, and please publicise. Lets show the antis that we can support one another.
  20. I've just picked up (this) story from google. It seems that there are some rabid antis voting like mad on there to stop the control of grey squirrels. If you can vote in favour of culling, and publicise the poll on other forums etc it would be good.
  21. I don't know everything about everything, but I do know illegal and unsporting when I read it. With friends like you, the hunting world doesn't need enemies. You do all their work for them posting crap like that.
  22. The fact that you are suggesting it is enough to make me think you are a tit. The fact that you are unable to reply to my post without using 'text talk' ([bANNED TEXT]) confirms that your IQ is probably single figure. What looks like a young lad (sorry if you're not) has come on here and asked a genuine question. What he's got is a couple of half sensible replies (how many has it missed, and it'll get there in the end etc) and a few morons suggesting chucking the dog live rabbits to 'get it going'. Throwing live quarry to dogs is illegal (and has been for a long time) and is also uns
