hows your season?
bowderdale replied to Aaron's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Hi there, our shoot is doing ok and we're on course for more than 50%, we only started the shoot last season with what can only be descibed as a novice syndicate of 7 guns, we only put 1000 birds down this season and are getting bags of around 55, we only have 2 woods on the shoot, all of our cover is steep fellside covered in bracken and crags hence we have very high challenging birds. -
Just wondering if theres a big difference in the price of day old chicks(common ring necks) from all the game farms around the country, i reared 500 day olds this season which was the first attempt on my behalf, i also bought in 500 7week old poults i'm wanting to get them all as day olds for the comming season 08, i paid 75p for them, can anyone recommend a game farm ? I got 200 mallard from high fly in blackpool, anyone know what there pheasants are like. I paid 90p for the ducks is this about right ?

Eurwyn You are obviously doing the right thing for your dog if its not working out. Better to get it sorted now than in a few months time when the dog is much more settled. What I find more disturbing is the fact that the breeder of your dog has obviously not kept in contact with you over the first couple of months of having this dog even if it is just to 'check in' and see if everything is ok . Bowderdale why are you needing to tell Eurwyn on a forum that you have found the dog a home?? Surely you have been in touch with him on the phone to offer support and see what the issue is???
-
Hi Eurwyn, its the breeder here of your gwp, got a suitable home sorted for him as long as you can return him to me.

Thanks for the comments zippo, todays terrain was very steep and rough but not as rough as the last cover we done on sunday ! Hope your little bassets have recovered from the miles they put in. I'll give you a bit more notice next time and you can get on the treadmill to get conditioned before you come. ttfn

Thats my cattledogx bullgreyhound dog pup he's 8 months old.

Went out today on our shoot ground to check a large fell side covered in gorse and crags, the hounds lifted matey and went straight down the fell side about 300yrds in 10 seconds and holed him in a drain at the bottom, my black terrier bitch accounted for him in there dag down 3ft and dispatched him- hope this is the bugger killing our pheasants.

Well I'm going to put my size "6's" in here and expect to be bawled out but I cannot believe bowderdale's attitude to a dog he bred...... Yes that may be the reason that you decided to place the dog, in what now seems not to be the most ideal home (of just 2 months) but you as the breeder must take the responsibility to ensure that he ends up in a suitable home. Surely you have the room and the time to take him back for the time being - your brought him into this world and surely you have some feelings for him??? Any puppies that are bred by us are covered by a contract that for any

hells fire there bear traps, look well built though not to easy to steal either, most of mine get nicked

Hi Eurwyn, sorry to hear that its not working out with him, but i'm not in a position to take him back off you as much as i would like to have, my reason for selling him was to spend more time with his sister to get her up to standard and this is still ongoing. I 'll ask around to try my best to get the dog a good working home, unfortunatley for you that he's not bonded with the boy, gwps are very loyal dogs and i find this a bit unusual. If any one is intrested in giving this gwp a loving working home, you can get in touch with me as i bred the dog and have his sister, mother, and half bro

Bushing Foxes with beagle crosses-the end
bowderdale replied to bowderdale's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
They are VERY keen, are into there 4th season now and know the score, very fast in the cover , doesnt matter how thick or how big it is, they scream there little heads off, the guns have got to be sharp there're usually about 20yrds behind matey They certainly look in good hard fettle. sounds like you have alot of fun out bushing, at the same time providing a good service to keepers and farmers etc. in terms of size what would you compare your hounds to? the other thing im wondering is do they mark to ground and stay or are they more interested in moving on to find another, hope you -

bowderdale replied to bowderdale's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management

I have a problem with my ducks on the shoot, we've shot them twice and all went very well, feeding them about 300yrds from the pond and flying them back, but today they wouldnt come to the feed or get off the pond(which is not a big pond bey anymeans) they just swam around with the dogs,m what should i do now ? I only half feed them the day previous to the shoot so they are hungry. thanks
