  1. Couldn't see the 10 for £86 If they are not stamped OR only stamped with "Mk4", avoid at all costs. Also don't buy from any one called Underwood - he is a regular purveyor of fakes - on Epay he lists under Xtrashock_uk and Atlantictanks. He also sells these fakes at game fairs. His activities have been curtailled recently since I started pestering Epay about these fakes. I have also released a guide to spotting fake Fenn and fake Magnum bodygrips. The regular sellers on Epay who supply genuine ones are moorlandspoultry, itsareal1, opuk2008, the-trap-man, 2013betsieboo and pestuk0118.
  2. Not having done my home work properly, I inadvertantly bought a fake Fenn Mk4 from someone in the Midlands. This guy turns out to be a regular trickster with the way he markets his fake Fenn traps. He calls them Fens or Fen/Springer. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was that the spring was nowhere near as strong as the real Fenn. So I tried it out over time and the fake made some kills but also some escapes. Here is a video of the fake in action followed by the real Fenn Mark 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zlga32KGRg Have any of you had a similar experience?
  3. Well spotted. I got rid of the last pair by relocating in Jan and March and have been without any since the start of this month. Currently have one coming in occasionally as it has been triggering the PIR/cameras. The effort of relocating is worth it to be without them for 9-10 months.
  4. You got it pretty much right. Unless I can get hold of a cattle stunner, I will find a "reputable wildlife rescue group" and do a relocation. im not sure whether your an anti or an idiot Anti what? Let me clarify; I grew up in a rural area doing lots of hunting, fishing, trapping etc so I'm not a squeamish tree-hugger. I'm not sure if you are aware of just how much of a problem these urban foxes are.
  5. you need the land owners permission, to release them that won't happens with my farmers, Whatt about Hampstead Heath or Wimbledon Common? Would these be OK?
  6. You got it pretty much right. Unless I can find a mate with a .22, I will find a "reputable wildlife rescue group" and do a relocation.
  7. My understanding is that it is illegal to relocate grey squirrels and other imported vermin species. The regulations on foxes is more accomodating. UntilI get my depatch mechanism I will be using these guys. http://www.pestcontrol4london.co.uk/fox-pest-control-london-foxes.html
  8. My understanding is that if I put the trap out with bait in it on Day 1, they would be ultra cautious. And of course my scent would be there. I minimised my scent by wearing Wellingtons and rubbed these with a particularly smelly flower stems from the garden. The Wellies are good as a lot of human scent ( eg skin cells , hair etc) falls down the trouser legs and on to the shoes. Believe me this is for real. I also used my gardening gloves, trousers and jacket that I keep in the shed so that human scent was minimised. With them getting confident and getting a fresh squirrel from there fr
  9. Just learned to use a video editor so I've put together a short movie (3:45 mins) of one of my trapping projects. Please bear with me as I'm not yet up to the standard of some of you who produce videos. This shows foxes getting used to the cage and taking bait (fresh squirrel) from it. It's been good fun as it involves CCTV, Ethernet cabling, PIR sensor and an ASDA shopping trolley. I hope you enjoy it..... Here's the result...
  10. Do they work and where can I get some? Tom
  11. In response to public demand, this clip has been editted.
  12. Here's one I made last year from an abandoned ASDA shopping trolley. The door is held up by the pipe. This pipe has a notch cut into it at the right hand end and the notch is located on a horizontal bit of the mesh. When the bait is pulled, it pivots an inverted "L" shaped arm that tips the pipe up and lets the door slam down and is secured with a latch. It usually stay covered in foliage and a bit of astro turf.
  13. If you are a regular Ebayer, I would suggest you consider these sellers - moorlandspoultry, itsareal1, opuk2008, the-trap-man, 2013betsieboo and pestuk0118.
  14. If you are on Ebay I suggest the following suppliers who supply genuine traps approved by DEFRA - moorlandspoultry, itsareal1, opuk2008, the-trap-man, 2013betsieboo and pestuk0118. There are one or two sellers on Ebay who flog cheap counterfeit traps. They use various tricks to hijack the Fenn brand name. The two worst offenders are based in Stratford-on-Avon.
  15. The grey squirrel reduction programme is going well to plan. Here's a clip of a Fenn Mark4 in action. Don't they just love peanut butter! Also a Tit (?) comes to watch. Now editted to shorter length.
  16. Not having been to a gamefair yet, I thought I might ask other forum members as to which venues they would recommend for someone who is based in the Midlands - Stratford-on-Avon to be exact. I'm looking for a big venue with about 100 miles with lots of stall for kit, equipment etc etc. Your recommendations would be most welcome. Tom
  17. I was delighted to come across this forum recently. I'm from a rural background and now a retiree living in London. I do get back to the countryside reasonably frequently so like keeping in touch with hunting, fishing and wildlife in general. When not in the countryside I have to content myself with supressing the grey squirrel count to stop them ring-barking my shrubs. Tom
