the liverpool echo tonight, detectives trapped a gang who dug up rats and then watched them getting ripped apart by a pack of dogs. seven men were caught taking part in the hunt on a private farm land in st helens. ARMED WITH SPADES THEY PINPOINT RAT RUNS AND PULLED UP SODS OF EARTH TO EXPOSE THE RODENTS .a police helicopter monitored the gang from above as the terriers and spaniels ripped the rats to pieces.they were convicted of hunting a wild mammal with dogs and each fined £400 and ordered to pay £65 court costs. THE GAMEKEEPER COULD IDENTIFY THOSE INVOLVED WHO HAD BEEN ON PRIVATE THE LAND BEFORE AND HE HAD BEEN INTIMIDATED AND THREATS MADE AGAINST HIM.

Surley the keeper could not give a toss about a few rats

spot on but do you really think you wouldnt give a toss if thy turned up on your shoot you had permission to do the vermin on. It wasnt a case of a couple of fellas using ferrets Allways two sides of story

Lets put it this way, if they were as thuggish as the 'keeper makes out, then the coppers would have made sure they were prosecuted to the fullest degree. The lads would have probably laughed at the trespass fine, and the intimidation would have been difficult to prove.

So they got the full force of the hunting act applied instead.

If they had permission, they wouldn't have been reported in the first place, if they didn't go in mob handed and get thick with the 'keeper, the cops wouldn't have been looking at them from a helicopter.

Like K9wpg said, theres more to it than rats.

Frank,

Hunting rats, well grand, I don't a shite about that, hunt away.

But having a go at the 'keeper? threats and intimidation? trespass? Sounds like something a bunch of anti's would do.

so let me get this right, it ok to tresspass on someone land to hunt rats, but it not to hunt deer, fox and hare. as far as im consirened tresspassing is tresspassing what ever your hunting. how many of you lot would be happy with someone hunting in your back garden or field.:no::no:

and as for treating the game keeper i think they want to be happy they got afine and not a f***ing good hiding which you would get from some gamekeepers. or even there dogs shot by the gamekeeper

Well last year i was down my local alotments/kennels playing about with the air-rifle taking a few rats out,....then the helicopter flew over and started hoverring above me,.....so after 20 mins or so looking up at them wondering what the hell was going on a mate ran down and told me something was wrong,....well 2mins after that i looked up the path to find 4 armed coppers running towards telling me to drop the rifle and get on the ground!

When they took me up the path and on to the street i was shocked to see that they had shut the place of and there was at least 15 police cars/vans there including armed responce,....cid,......dog handlers ect. Now what a waste i was told that the the pilot in the chopper had thought i had a shotgun bit he was more than close enough to see that it was a poxy 22 air-rifle,....well it went to court anyways and i got a £200 fine for it????????
