  1. makes perfect sense to me mate. I agree its easier to pen them but I don't agree that its better for the dog. I know which any dog would choose given the choice
  2. Maybe that's why I'm asking..... Since my dogs switched to daytime this season he ain't had anything that's kept him out of action touch wood. Maybe id have 2 myself if he spent half the season injured like he did when I was lamping him
  3. yea and i know you work full time so its good that you can keep them all fit. Mind you, you keep yourself fitter than half the dogs i know as well you dont mind a mission do ya! i know i must of lost a few pounds that night lol. But just say you didnt have the terrier and the rabbitting dogs, would you see the point in having a big pack of coursing dogs or would you think it'd make more sense to have one or two?
  4. yea that makes perfect sense to me, ive got a whippet grey type that i got as an adult and apparently he was a pet not allowed off lead before i took him on. And i can honestly say i dont think you could find a dog slower to bring on than this backwards cnut! Took a full season to stop trying to commit suicide by running into something every run. took longer than that to stop wildly overshooting every run. He's sort of got the hang of it now but most nights he just cant seem to get more than 1 or 2 stupid fence hitting rabbits in his mouth. Im convinced it's cos he missed out on the basic at t
  5. Well not really cos i dont believe many of them would have anything worth having, that's sort of my point. Apart from those lucky few that do really have a lifestyle that allows them to keep 6 dogs fit and put enough in front of each dog for long enough to see the dogs true potential, and yea i spose i would be jealous of that lifestyle if i could still pay the bills. But apart from those lucky few, would it not make more sense to put all their efforts in to 1 or 2 dogs? I use to have 3 dogs and also founf getting the work for them hard. I think also putting the work into one dog and

  7. I understand having a big pack of dogs for different jobs, or even dogs that work together in packs. I've got 3 dogs myself but 2 of them are lamping dogs, can always find a few hours a week to go lamping, Just don't understand how anyone could bring on 2 or 3 coursing pups whilst keeping on top of 3 or 4 other coursing dogs. Spose it's easy if you dont work or even if you work nights and lived where theres plenty to go at......
  8. How many dogs do you have in your kennels for the one job? I've got 1 and struggle to give him enough graft to get the very best out of him. Keep seeing coursing lads pictures of their pack or "ammo" and wonder how one man can work 5 or 6 dogs to even a fraction of their full potential. This topic aint me bitching at all, as im always tempted for something new hoping it'll make something special. But then i always think 'whats the point when i cant find time to get my 1 dog out twice a week'. Until i can do that i cant see how having another dog would benefit me, it'd just take away from t
  9. Too many runs? My whippet grey can hardly move if he gets too much graft in one night
  10. His dam is coursing bred, merlin eve stuff but the sire is deer grey x collie grey with some bull. I'm sure its not the dams side that's made him responsive to commands and a joy to own. Definitely get a more purpose bred coursing pup next time though after seeing the lungs on chief.
  11. Yea I'm happy with Oscar. Doing well considering he ain't really bred for it and its his first season. Still could of done better in December tho missed a lot. Does everything except catch them since it got cold. Hopefully stop a couple this weekend though
  12. To think that was probably the 15th rabbit chief has seen. Plus its middle of winter in a pretty tight field on the black stuff. The vid doesn't show it but he went on to kill that rabbit and another on much bigger land after a 5 minute course. Privilege to watch a pup run with so much potential
