Guest houndblair Posted March 4, 2007 Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 Well Craking on after the rabbits on the estate The squirrels are our next income Traps ready (well most) , dreys located but not one squirel has been shot by my mate So where trapping the basterds, keeping all the traps of the footpaths (not very busy ones tho) and away from the village, we have decided to start the cull in the woods and gardens first before moving on to the other side! My mate is craknig on with the tunnels for the traps! All i wanted to know was some tips on trapping squirrels and mesaurments of tgunnels! GOOD HUNTING hb Quote Link to post

victoria vixen 0 Posted March 5, 2007 Report Share Posted March 5, 2007 For whatever it's worth, I've caught thousands of squirrels over my career in cage traps (8x8x18), both on the ground and by setting on a board mounted on an "L" bracket and then mounted on the side of a tree with screws and a cordless drill. The bait in placed in a small "tin" (sardine) in the back of the cage trap. The bait I always made myself by using peanut butter as a base.I slowly melted this in a microwave and then added sunflower seeds and whole kernal (feed) corn, plus nut extracts such as walnut, pecan, hazelnut, almond and a touch of vanilla. Once stirred, it is set in the fridge to "cool". Top notch squirrel bait for the do it yourselfer!!! Victoria Quote Link to post

I HAVE ACTUALY SET IT UPSIDE DOWN . TO CREATE A VISUAL IMPACT . SO THE SQUIRRELS CAN SEE THE NUTS . THERE ARE ALSO SOME ON THE SLOPING TOP OF THE FENCE POST , STUCK THERE WITH PEANUT BUTTER THE BOTTOM PICS ARE OF MY TUNNELS IN TREES. JUST A PLANK OF WOOD , JUST WIDE ENOUGH FOR A FENN 6. THEN ONE END AND THE TOP HAVE WIRE NETTING ON ( cheap, also they can see bait from above) Quote Link to post
