Hi Guys~

Im in need of advice ..... My mate has a rescue dog possibly two year old ? He is whippet sized (approx) although his body is thicker his head is stronger too more like a jack russel  he is "hyper" not to mention a randy buggyer :icon_eek:

This dog can run ! :clapper: just taking him for a walk he out runs rabbits :good: but simply runs round them :( he makes no attempt to catch them  Its so frustrating

Ive shown him rabbits ive shot, and i gave his owner a rabbit skin stuffed to play with but he shows no real interest  if anything hes scared

I would love to help my mate get this dog working :)

Where to start  any and all advice most welcome

Hi Guys~

This is Kev (if photo works) hes 20"-21" at the shoulder........... like i said he was a rescue dog so we've no idea as to his parentage ?? Any ideas ?? I reckon there has to be a jack russel envolved some where along the way  as he certinally has a terrier look about him but he certinally looks whippet like more than any thing else ??

Trouble is i shoot only dogs i have are working Black Lab and a Bullmstiff (security B) ) i was alway into terriers dont really know anyone who has running dogs .............

Anyone have any ideas as to his genetic history ??? My mate is curious :)

He has a lovely set of teeth on him, he can jump very well , run like the wind , randy little bugger ;) hard body and is tough as nails powerful too. I did say he wont chase rabbits ... runs round them

How ever i just remembered i once saw him chase a cat over six 4' garden fences :11: cat was in his front when we returned from a walk he went mental ! So he does have "some" instinct to chase in him ..................

There's definately bull in there, do you have ferrets? this next bit is sure to cause some upset, but have you thought about getting him some droppers, tilt the odds well in his favour....... :diablo:

as some of the lads say let him have a look at a good working dog

that should get him going when he see's the game :guitar:

plus put the training as well ,retrieving and such

good luck mate :good:

an idea is to get a stuffed rabbit and play fit with the dog with it so he gets like kinda angry with it this might work. i have tried it withme mams little westy for mice and that it worked a treat. also tried it with rabbit and it works a treat too he dosen't half sniff them out on the runs

i'd say either a collie cross with mybe a bit of bull in him, strong head and jaw line by the look of it. the hyperness could be through collie as you must know that they are very energetic dogs and the running them to ground not catchin them COULD be his hearding instincts.....you never know....
