Guest Sabi
Our gorgeous little blue lurcher (deerhound x greyhound/beddi) died suddenly of a heart attack last week at the very young age of 5 1/2. We were all distraught, first with shock and then grief cos she was such a character and everyone who met her loved her to bits. After only four days of mooching around missing her - it's so wrong to find only one dog when you're looking for two all the time - we decided to look for a pup and were lucky to find one bitch left in collie/grey's litter of twelve less than 20 miles from our door. We went up on Sunday and fell in love with Wissi, who's been renamed Spook. She's settled in wonderfully well and at 7 weeks she may look tiny, but she's ruling the roost already! The only slight worry is that our big lurcher, Sabi, seems to think that wee Spook would make a nice snack and is very grumbly and snappy if her no-fly zone is invaded. She's ok out in the garden, just ignores the pup largely, but if anyone has any tips on how to speed up the getting-to-know you phase they'd be gratefully received. We're trying not to show any favouritism but as you know, pups are quite demanding and I'm worried Sabi feels side-lined. Any ideas? Quote Link to post

collie/grey 238
Your pics haven't worked sabi! :11: I expect i would feel grumbly if i was Sabi having a little terror running around that thinks she knows it all, give Sabi time and keep giving her alot of attention so she doesn't feel left out, as Spook grows up Sabi should grow more tolerant and hopefully accept her. Oh no - what did I do wrong?! I told you I wouldn't be able to do it! They do seem to work if you click on the URL though, but they're tiny. I wrote my message, clicked the tree icon on the bar above and then pasted the URL into the space given. When I previewed my posting, it worked, so I don't know what's happened. Oh well, the wonders of modern technology eh? Sabi and I are sitting quietly in the office, while Spook's having a big sleep after all her adventures of the day. She went for a walk in a backpack, like a baby and had a great time though she wanted to get down with all the other dogs - Sabi, two whippets, and two cocker spannies! She's going to the vets on Friday for her first jab. She's the most lovely sociable, responsive puppy I've ever known (though she's only my third so I'm hardly an expert) - good on your mum, she's done a great job! J Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
i've had quite a few hearing dog puppies through my house and my 2 dogs didn't like the chnge all the time.....just as they got to know and set the rules with one it would leave and another little terror would arrive. to ease the process we allowed are dogs to get on the sofa but never any of the puppies. this meant the older dogs could get away from the puppy and also elevated their social position so the puppy was no threat. The dogs always got off when told and there were no lines blurring of the older dogs competeing for dominance with the human family even when i was 12 they knew i had right to the sofa and there was no arguing just made them feel safer!!!! Sabi might like it. But once it starts theres no going back.....hairy sofas for life!!! Quote Link to post

There's no way Sabi's getting on the sofa, but we have an old chair that would do just fine. Good work with hearing dogs by the way. My nephew is deaf and I know what a lifeline these dogs can be. J Im not sure why they didn't work then! You could try attaching the pics to a post. So you start a new topic, then when you scroll down to post click on browse, then you choose a pic and click attach image, then when you post the topic the pic should automatically come up. Be grateful that shes still young enough to sleep for a good while! Enjoy it while it lasts! :11: She sounds like a typical pup from us. Me and my mum share the roles of rearing the pups, it's good fun but we're glad when they've gone if you see what i mean. Quote Link to post
