English Shotgun ?

I wonder if anyone can advise?

 

I recently bought a good looking side by side 12 bore shotgun with 'Damascus Barrels',(whatever they are) on the top of the barrels was the inscription TC Austin, 26 High Street, Fareham. serial number 25896.

 

The gun has engraving of a dog chased a pheasant on the side, is it English or is TC Austin just the retailer and if so how can i find out where the gun was made?

You need to have the prrof marks looked at by someone who knows about such things. If you write to Bill Harriman at Shooting Times Magazine with a close-up, clear pic of the proof marks he WILL be able to tell you whether Austin was registered (or not) as a gun maker or retailer and how long he was in business and where. With any luck you might even get your name and letter in the magazine.

if you photograph it and send as many pic's as poss to williams & evans at bisley they will do the work for you and value it as well top guys there .saved me £800 on a gun i was buying .noel
