rangers 0 Posted March 31, 2009 Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 i was out ferreting last week saw what i thorght was sum big rabbit holes and ther was rabbit poo evrywhere i ad a good look rouned and founed a trail of fox foot prints leeding to one of the holes i put one of my hobs in what i thought was a rabbit earth last week and he bolted a fox .fox left a little cub behind must of been only a few days old im just glad it didnt take the ferrets head of to protect the thing . very unusual a fox leaving a cub behind....very preotective animals over cubs.... thats what i thought i got a mark on the ferret and was digging down when it bolted so couid of been all my noise just glad it never killed the ferret Quote Link to post

wink hound 0 Posted March 31, 2009 Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 i would have to say rabbit. obviously everyone should side with the cautious aproach without a moments hesitaion. but from the pictures given(obviously there maybe more reason to think they are there if present) i would be suprised to see a badger using it. At this time of year it is very common for young boar badgers or sows looking to have young where a sett is highly populated to move out and scratch around in lots of diffrent places, just like the example here. they will excavate and look around lots of places but use very few. alot of people may of noticed that holes near dung pits may have been pulled out, but again when watched these holes are very seldom used. infcat this time of year it can appaer that badgers have exploded in numbers but really have just gained momentum. obvioulsy if you are from an area of a high badger population then you could well find them anywhere...... even living above ground.
