Cocks treading hens raw?

Will cocks tread hens raw? I noticed one hen was abit off a day ago had a look today and had to shoot her. One side has just been ripped up from under her wing to down her leg. Don't know what by but can only think the 2 cocks running with her. The other hen In the same pen Is fine though and the cocks are only young and only have small stubby spurs.

 

Forgot to say the other side on her seems fine.

i had one hen with a slice down her side she seems to be the hen the cocks like the most i treated her with wound power she came right in the end i have 2 cockerels and 10 hens its time to get rid of one cockerel as they are to much for the hens one is enough

She was the one they liked most too. I had 2 cocks In with 2 hens. Now there's 2 cocks running with 1 hen so they will need sorting out. This wasn't just a slight cut but a big gash and only on the 1 side which got me wondering If It was the cocks?

How many hens and cocks have you got running together?

To few hens to to many cocks they will injure them.

Also what are there spurs like? It is really easy to trim them back as this can injure hens.

That far too few hens.

Even if you get rid of one cock you still will need to get a few more hens.

Depends on the breed, a lot of game fowl cocks will happily live with 2, maybe 1 hen at a push. With no problem,

But your average large fowl ideally you would need say 5 hens min to one cock.

What breed are they?

Agree with Neil more Hens or get poultry saddles and check cockrels spurs

Breed.... there's a rhode and a barred plymouth rock. Both are young birds and you can only just see the spurs appearing so surely they can't do any damage. I'll look into sourcing a few more hens In the mean time and have a shuffle around the pens.
