dawnraider09 75 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Share Posted March 26, 2009 my sister has asked me to make her a riding crop out of holly,i have made my first attempt but have found the wood keeps splitting.it has been cut and left to season for about six months do you think it needs longer ,i know they make them out of holly as my sister bought one some years ago and paid 90 quid but it was pinched with alot of her tac in a burglary.any help greatly appreciated. BWB 3 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Share Posted March 26, 2009 my old chap makes walking sticks and he cuts them in the winter when the saps down and then leaves them for at least 12 months possibly even more depending on the size of stick for them to season . maybe as you suggest you havent let them season for long enough .
