Cut/Thread/Crown

Recommended Posts

My thanks to a former member of this site for putting me on to this guy....

Neil McKillop at Mckillop Engineering Ltd Butlersland Farm, READING, RG7 2AG.

He is a top man and a first class engineer/RFD/shooter..so he knows.... and cares!!!!

Just collected my .223 and .308 from him today after cut, thread, crown, moderator fitting.....Well chuffed, real quality work!!

He does work for some of the top people in the country and builds rifles as well as working miracles on them..had the pleasure of seeing some of his work and tried some of his guns...F*** me one of his match rifles had a trigger that let go when you got close...I simply could not touch it, no matter how gentle I tried to be it broke before I could hardly even feel it...and he wears gloves!

Anyway, I cannot recommend this guy enough, and he is only about 7 miles from me and he is one of the most reasonably priced gents it has been my pleasure to deal with!!!

I know what you mean Deker, but why oh why would you want a trigger so light in the woods ???????????????

Don't get me wrong,. back in my airgun days Steve at Ripley rifles produced guns with triggers that you only had to think fire and they did.

Do these really have a place in sporting shooting? A crisp and predictable let off at a regular 1 to 1.5lb has to be safer??

How about the accu trigger fitted to all new Savage guns?

Deker can i be cheeky and ask how much you payed for the shortening, recrown and threading??

If anyone can give a bit more details of what is involved in crowning it would be appreciated.

Cheers, Hughesey

Shorten barrel, thread, re-crown AND Proof!!!! £80.

This was on one of his 1000yard MATCH rifles!!!:thumbs: You would not be walking around the woods with this...the barrel went on for a fortnight and it weighed a ton!!!

I just had my .22-250 CZ550 cut, threaded and crowned yesterday. He did it while I waited (Just over an hour to do)

Absolutely fascinating to watch a master at work, and I never knew just how much work... measuring...balancing the barrel in lathe...measuring again... "clocking in the lathe"...So now i'm the proud owner of a Wildcat Predator 8 mod.

Cost me £50 for the work, and worth every penny. Work was carried out by a gunsmith called Charlie Geddes in Tayport, and the whole thing was an education!
